יהוה אל־בקצפך תוכיחני ובחמתך תיסרני׃ |
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. | For your arrows have pierced me, your hand presses hard on me. | O Lord, be not bitter with me in your wrath; let not your hand be on me in the heat of your passion. | |||

כי־חציך נחתו בי ותנחת עלי ידך׃ |
There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. | There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. | For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand. | |||

אין־מתם בבשרי מפני זעמך אין־שלום בעצמי מפני חטאתי׃ |
For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. | For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. | My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin. | |||

כי עונתי עברו ראשי כמשא כבד יכבדו ממני׃ |
My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. | My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, because of my foolishness. | For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength. | |||

הבאישו נמקו חבורתי מפני אולתי׃ |
I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. | I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all day long. | My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour. | |||

נעויתי שחתי עד־מאד כל־היום קדר הלכתי׃ |
For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. | For my waist is filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh. | I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day. | |||

כי־כסלי מלאו נקלה ואין מתם בבשרי׃ |
I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart. | I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart. | For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy. | |||

נפוגותי ונדכיתי עד־מאד שאגתי מנהמת לבי׃ |
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. | Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you. | I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart. | |||

אדני נגדך כל־תאותי ואנחתי ממך לא־נסתרה׃ |
My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. | My heart throbs. My strength fails me. As for the light of my eyes, it has also left me. | Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you. | |||

לבי סחרחר עזבני כחי ואור־עיני גם־הם אין אתי׃ |
My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off. | My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague. My kinsmen stand far away. | My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me. | |||

אהבי ורעי מנגד נגעי יעמדו וקרובי מרחק עמדו׃ |
They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long. | They also who seek after my life lay snares. וינקשו מבקשי נפשי ודרשי רעתי דברו הוות ומרמות כל־היום יהגו׃ |
But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. | But I, as a deaf man, don't hear. I am as a mute man who doesn't open his mouth. | Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit. | |||

ואני כחרש לא אשמע וכאלם לא יפתח־פיו׃ |
Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. | Yes, I am as a man who doesn't hear, in whose mouth are no reproofs. | But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth. | |||

ואהי כאיש אשר לא־שמע ואין בפיו תוכחות׃ |
For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God. | For in you, Yahweh, do I hope. You will answer, Lord my God. | So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words. | |||

כי־לך יהוה הוחלתי אתה תענה אדני אלהי׃ |
For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me. | For I said, "Don't let them gloat over me, or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." | In you, O Lord, is my hope: you will give me an answer, O Lord, my God. | |||

כי־אמרתי פן־ישמחו־לי במוט רגלי עלי הגדילו׃ |
For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me. | For I am ready to fall. My pain is continually before me. | I said, Let them not be glad over me; when my foot is moved, let them not be lifted up with pride against me. | |||

כי־אני לצלע נכון ומכאובי נגדי תמיד׃ |
For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. | For I will declare my iniquity. I will be sorry for my sin. | My feet are near to falling, and my sorrow is ever before me. | |||
| 19. |
כי־עוני אגיד אדאג מחטאתי׃ |
But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. | But my enemies are vigorous and many. Those who hate me without reason are numerous. | I will make clear my wrongdoing, with sorrow in my heart for my sin. | |||

ואיבי חיים עצמו ורבו שנאי שקר׃ |
They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is. | They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow what is good. | But they are strong who have hate for me without cause: those who are against me falsely are increased in numbers. | |||

ומשלמי רעה תחת טובה ישטנוני תחת רדופי־טוב׃ |
Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me. | Don't forsake me, Yahweh. My God, don't be far from me. | They give me back evil for good; they are my haters because I go after the thing which is right. | |||

אל־תעזבני יהוה אלהי אל־תרחק ממני׃ |
Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation. | Hurry to help me, Lord, my salvation. | Do not give me up, O Lord; O my God, be near to me. | |||
