יהוה אלהים צבאות עד־מתי עשנת בתפלת עמך׃ |
Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure. | You have fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure. | O Lord God of armies, how long will your wrath be burning against the rest of your people? | |||

האכלתם לחם דמעה ותשקמו בדמעות שליש׃ |
Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves. | You make us a source of contention to our neighbors. Our enemies laugh among themselves. | You have given them the bread of weeping for food; for their drink you have given them sorrow in great measure. | |||

תשימנו מדון לשכנינו ואיבינו ילעגו־למו׃ |

גפן ממצרים תסיע תגרש גוים ותטעה׃ |

פנית לפניה ותשרש שרשיה ותמלא־ארץ׃ |
The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars. | The mountains were covered with its shadow. Its boughs were like God's cedars. | You made ready a place for it, so that it might take deep root, and it sent out its branches over all the land. | |||

כסו הרים צלה וענפיה ארזי־אל׃ |

תשלח קצירה עד־ים ואל־נהר יונקותיה׃ |
Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her? | Why have you broken down its walls, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it? | It sent out its arms to the Sea, and its branches to the River. | |||

למה פרצת גדריה וארוה כל־עברי דרך׃ |
The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it. | The boar out of the wood ravages it. The wild animals of the field feed on it. | Why are its walls broken down by your hands, so that all who go by may take its fruit? | |||

יכרסמנה חזיר מיער וזיז שדי ירענה׃ |
Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine; | Turn again, we beg you, God of Armies. Look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vine, | It is uprooted by the pigs from the woods, the beasts of the field get their food from it. | |||

אלהים צבאות שוב־נא הבט משמים וראה ופקד גפן זאת׃ |
And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself. | the stock which your right hand planted, the branch that you made strong for yourself. | Come back, O God of armies: from heaven let your eyes be turned to this vine, and give your mind to it, | |||

וכנה אשר־נטעה ימינך ועל־בן אמצתה לך׃ |
It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance. | It's burned with fire. It's cut down. They perish at your rebuke. | Even to the tree which was planted by your right hand, and to the branch which you made strong for yourself. | |||

שרפה באש כסוחה מגערת פניך יאבדו׃ |
Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself. | Let your hand be on the man of your right hand, on the son of man whom you made strong for yourself. | It is burned with fire; it is cut down: they are made waste by the wrath of your face. | |||

תהי־ידך על־איש ימינך על־בן־אדם אמצת לך׃ |
So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name. | So we will not turn away from you. Revive us, and we will call on your name. | Let your hand be on the man of your right hand, on the son of man whom you made strong for yourself. | |||

ולא־נסוג ממך תחינו ובשמך נקרא׃ |
Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. | Turn us again, Yahweh God of Armies. Cause your face to shine, and we will be saved. | So will we not be turned back from you; keep us in life, and we will give praise to your name. | |||
