ישב בסתר עליון בצל שדי יתלונן׃ |
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. | He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. | Happy is he whose resting-place is in the secret of the Lord, and under the shade of the wings of the Most High; | |||

אמר ליהוה מחסי ומצודתי אלהי אבטח־בו׃ |

כי הוא יצילך מפח יקוש מדבר הוות׃ |
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. | For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence. | He will take you out of the bird-net, and keep you safe from wasting disease. | |||

באברתו יסך לך ותחת־כנפיו תחסה צנה וסחרה אמתו׃ |
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. | He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. | You will be covered by his feathers; under his wings you will be safe: his good faith will be your salvation. | |||

לא־תירא מפחד לילה מחץ יעוף יומם׃ |
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; | You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day; | You will have no fear of the evil things of the night, or of the arrow in flight by day, | |||

מדבר באפל יהלך מקטב ישוד צהרים׃ |
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. | nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday. | Or of the disease which takes men in the dark, or of the destruction which makes waste when the sun is high. | |||

יפל מצדך אלף ורבבה מימינך אליך לא יגש׃ |
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. | A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you. | You will see a thousand falling by your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you. | |||

רק בעיניך תביט ושלמת רשעים תראה׃ |

כי־אתה יהוה מחסי עליון שמת מעונך׃ |

לא־תאנה אליך רעה ונגע לא־יקרב באהלך׃ |
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. | no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. | No evil will come on you, and no disease will come near your tent. | |||

כי מלאכיו יצוה־לך לשמרך בכל־דרכיך׃ |
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. | For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. | For he will give you into the care of his angels to keep you wherever you go. | |||

על־כפים ישאונך פן־תגף באבן רגלך׃ |
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. | They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won't dash your foot against a stone. | In their hands they will keep you up, so that your foot may not be crushed against a stone. | |||

על־שחל ופתן תדרך תרמס כפיר ותנין׃ |
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. | You will tread on the lion and cobra. You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot. | You will put your foot on the lion and the snake; the young lion and the great snake will be crushed under your feet. | |||

כי בי חשק ואפלטהו אשגבהו כי־ידע שמי׃ |
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. | "Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. יקראני ואענהו עמו־אנכי בצרה אחלצהו ואכבדהו׃ |
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. | He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. ארך ימים אשביעהו ואראהו בישועתי׃ |
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. | I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation." | With long life will he be rewarded; and I will let him see my salvation. | |||
