1.    וידבר  יהוה  אל־משה 
לאמר׃
    And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,     Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,     And the Lord said to Moses,
 
2.    עשה  לך  שתי  חצוצרת 
כסף  מקשה  תעשה  אתם
והיו  לך  למקרא
העדה  ולמסע
את־המחנות׃
    Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.     "Make two trumpets of silver. You shall make them of beaten work. You shall use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps.     Make two silver horns of hammered work, to be used for getting the people together and to give the sign for the moving of the tents.
 
3.    ותקעו  בהן  ונועדו 
אליך  כל־העדה
אל־פתח  אהל  מועד׃
    And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.     When they blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the door of the Tent of Meeting.     When they are sounded, all the people are to come together to you at the door of the Tent of meeting.
 
4.    ואם־באחת  יתקעו 
ונועדו  אליך
הנשיאים  ראשי  אלפי
ישראל׃
    And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.     If they blow just one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.     If only one of them is sounded, then the chiefs, the heads of the thousands of Israel, are to come to you.
 
5.    ותקעתם  תרועה 
ונסעו  המחנות
החנים  קדמה׃
    When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.     When you blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall go forward.     When a loud note is sounded, the tents placed on the east side are to go forward.
 
6.    ותקעתם  תרועה  שנית 
ונסעו  המחנות
החנים  תימנה  תרועה
יתקעו  למסעיהם׃
    When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.     When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall go forward. They shall blow an alarm for their journeys.     At the sound of a second loud note, the tents on the south side are to go forward: the loud note will be the sign to go forward.
 
7.    ובהקהיל  את־הקהל 
תתקעו  ולא  תריעו׃
    But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.     But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm.     But when all the people are to come together, the horn is to be sounded but not loudly.
 
8.    ובני  אהרן  הכהנים 
יתקעו  בחצצרות
והיו  לכם  לחקת
עולם  לדרתיכם׃
    And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.     "The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. This shall be to you for a statute forever throughout your generations.     The horns are to be sounded by the sons of Aaron, the priests; this is to be a law for you for ever, from generation to generation.
 
9.    וכי־תבאו  מלחמה 
בארצכם  על־הצר
הצרר  אתכם  והרעתם
בחצצרת  ונזכרתם
לפני  יהוה  אלהיכם
ונושעתם  מאיביכם׃
    And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.     When you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets. Then you will be remembered before Yahweh your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.     And if you go to war in your land against any who do you wrong, then let the loud note of the horn be sounded; and the Lord your God will keep you in mind and give you salvation from those who are against you.
 
10.    וביום  שמחתכם 
ובמועדיכם  ובראשי
חדשכם  ותקעתם
בחצצרת  על  עלתיכם
ועל  זבחי  שלמיכם
והיו  לכם  לזכרון
לפני  אלהיכם  אני
יהוה  אלהיכם׃
    Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.     "Also in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God. I am Yahweh your God."     And on days of joy and on your regular feasts and on the first day of every month, let the horns be sounded over your burned offerings and your peace-offerings; and they will put the Lord in mind of you: I am the Lord your God.
 
11.    ויהי  בשנה  השנית 
בחדש  השני  בעשרים
בחדש  נעלה  הענן
מעל  משכן  העדת׃
    And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.     It happened in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony.     Now in the second year, on the twentieth day of the second month, the cloud was taken up from over the Tent of witness.
 
12.    ויסעו  בני־ישראל 
למסעיהם  ממדבר
סיני  וישכן  הענן
במדבר  פארן׃
    And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.     The children of Israel went forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran.     And the children of Israel went on their journey out of the waste land of Sinai; and the cloud came to rest in the waste land of Paran.
 
13.    ויסעו  בראשנה 
על־פי  יהוה
ביד־משה׃
    And they first took their journey according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.     They first went forward according to the commandment of Yahweh by Moses.     They went forward for the first time on their journey as the Lord had given orders by the hand of Moses.
 
14.    ויסע  דגל  מחנה 
בני־יהודה  בראשנה
לצבאתם  ועל־צבאו
נחשון  בן־  עמינדב׃
    In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah according to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.     First, the standard of the camp of the children of Judah went forward according to their armies. Nahshon the son of Amminadab was over his army.     First the flag of the children of Judah went forward with their armies: and at the head of his army was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab.
 
15.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
יששכר  נתנאל
בן־צוער׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethaneel the son of Zuar.     Nethanel the son of Zuar was over the army of the tribe of the children of Issachar.     And at the head of the army of the children of Issachar was Nethanel, the son of Zuar.
 
16.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
זבולן  אליאב
בן־חלן׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.     Eliab the son of Helon was over the army of the tribe of the children of Zebulun.     And at the head of the army of the children of Zebulun was Eliab, the son of Helon.
 
17.    והורד  המשכן  ונסעו 
בני־גרשון  ובני
מררי  נשאי  המשכן׃
    And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle.     The tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who bore the tabernacle, went forward.     Then the House was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who were responsible for moving the House, went forward.
 
18.    ונסע  דגל  מחנה 
ראובן  לצבאתם
ועל־צבאו  אליצור
בן־שדיאור׃
    And the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.     The standard of the camp of Reuben went forward according to their armies. Elizur the son of Shedeur was over his army.     Then the flag of the children of Reuben went forward with their armies: and at the head of his army was Elizur, the son of Shedeur.
 
19.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
שמעון  שלמיאל
בן־צורי  שדי׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.     Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai was over the army of the tribe of the children of Simeon.     And at the head of the army of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai.
 
20.    ועל־צבא  מטה 
בני־גד  אליסף
בן־דעואל׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.     Eliasaph the son of Deuel was over the army of the tribe of the children of Gad.     At the head of the army of the children of Gad was Eliasaph, the son of Reuel.
 
21.    ונסעו  הקהתים  נשאי 
המקדש  והקימו
את־המשכן  עד־באם׃
    And the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary: and the other did set up the tabernacle against they came.     The Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary. The others set up the tabernacle before they arrived.     Then the Kohathites went forward with the holy place; the others put up the House ready for their coming.
 
22.    ונסע  דגל  מחנה 
בני־אפרים  לצבאתם
ועל־צבאו  אלישמע
בן־עמיהוד׃
    And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.     The standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their armies. Elishama the son of Ammihud was over his army.     Then the flag of the children of Ephraim went forward with their armies: and at the head of his army was Elishama, the son of Ammihud.
 
23.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
מנשה  גמליאל
בן־פדהצור׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.     Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur was over the army of the tribe of the children of Manasseh.     At the head of the army of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur.
 
24.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
בנימן  אבידן
בן־גדעוני׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.     Abidan the son of Gideoni was over the army of the tribe of the children of Benjamin.     At the head of the army of the children of Benjamin was Abidan, the son of Gideoni.
 
25.    ונסע  דגל  מחנה 
בני־דן  מאסף
לכל־המחנת  לצבאתם
ועל־צבאו  אחיעזר
בן־עמישדי׃
    And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan set forward, which was the rereward of all the camps throughout their hosts: and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.     The standard of the camp of the children of Dan, which was the rearward of all the camps, set forward according to their armies. Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai was over his army.     And the flag of the children of Dan, whose tents were moved last of all, went forward with their armies: and at the head of his army was Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai.
 
26.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
אשר  פגעיאל
בן־עכרן׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ocran.     Pagiel the son of Ochran was over the army of the tribe of the children of Asher.     At the head of the army of the children of Asher was Pagiel, the son of Ochran.
 
27.    ועל־צבא  מטה  בני 
נפתלי  אחירע
בן־עינן׃
    And over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.     Ahira the son of Enan was over the army of the tribe of the children of Naphtali.     And at the head of the army of the children of Naphtali was Ahira, the son of Enan.
 
28.    אלה  מסעי 
בני־ישראל  לצבאתם
ויסעו׃
    Thus were the journeyings of the children of Israel according to their armies, when they set forward.     Thus were the travels of the children of Israel according to their armies; and they went forward.     This was the order in which the children of Israel were journeying by armies; so they went forward.
 
29.    ויאמר  משה  לחבב 
בן־רעואל  המדיני
חתן  משה  נסעים
אנחנו  אל־המקום
אשר  אמר  יהוה  אתו
אתן  לכם  לכה  אתנו
והטבנו  לך  כי־יהוה
דבר־טוב  על־
ישראל׃
    And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses' father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.     Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We are journeying to the place of which Yahweh said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us, and we will treat you well; for Yahweh has spoken good concerning Israel."     Then Moses said to Hobab, the son of his father-in-law Reuel the Midianite, We are journeying to that place of which the Lord has said, I will give it to you: so come with us, and it will be for your profit: for the Lord has good things in store for Israel.
 
30.    ויאמר  אליו  לא  אלך 
כי  אם־אל־ארצי
ואל־מולדתי  אלך׃
    And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.     He said to him, "I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives."     But he said, I will not go with you, I will go back to the land of my birth and to my relations.
 
31.    ויאמר  אל־נא  תעזב 
אתנו  כי  על־כן
ידעת  חנתנו  במדבר
והיית  לנו  לעינים׃
    And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.     He said, "Don't leave us, please; because you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.     And he said, Do not go from us; for you will be eyes for us, guiding us to the right places in the waste land to put up our tents.
 
32.    והיה  כי־תלך  עמנו 
והיה  הטוב  ההוא
אשר  ייטיב  יהוה
עמנו  והטבנו  לך׃
    And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.     It shall be, if you go with us, yes, it shall be, that whatever good Yahweh does to us, we will do the same to you."     And if you come with us, we will give you a part in whatever good the Lord does for us.
 
33.    ויסעו  מהר  יהוה 
דרך  שלשת  ימים
וארון  ברית־יהוה
נסע  לפניהם  דרך
שלשת  ימים  לתור
להם  מנוחה׃
    And they departed from the mount of the LORD three days' journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days' journey, to search out a resting place for them.     They set forward from the Mount of Yahweh three days' journey. The ark of the covenant of Yahweh went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them.     So they went forward three days' journey from the mountain of the Lord; and the ark of the Lord's agreement went three days' journey before them, looking for a resting-place for them;
 
34.    וענן  יהוה  עליהם 
יומם  בנסעם
מן־המחנה׃
    And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp.     The cloud of Yahweh was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp.     And by day the cloud of the Lord went over them, when they went forward from the place where they had put up their tents.
 
35.    ויהי  בנסע  הארן 
ויאמר  משה  קומה
יהוה  ויפצו  איביך
וינסו  משנאיך
מפניך׃
    And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.     It happened, when the ark went forward, that Moses said, "Rise up, Yahweh, and let your enemies be scattered! Let those who hate you flee before you!"     And when the ark went forward Moses said, Come up, O Lord, and let the armies of those who are against you be broken, and let your haters go in flight before you.
 
36.    ובנחה  יאמר  שובה 
יהוה  רבבות  אלפי
ישראל׃
    And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the many thousands of Israel.     When it rested, he said, "Return, Yahweh, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel."     And when it came to rest, he said, Take rest, O Lord, and give a blessing to the families of Israel.
