1.    Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God's mountain, to Horeb.     Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.     ומשה  היה  רעה 
את־צאן  יתרו  חתנו
כהן  מדין  וינהג
את־הצאן  אחר  המדבר
ויבא  אל־הר  האלהים
חרבה׃
    VMShH HYH Ur'yH 'aTh-TSh'aN YThUrV ChThNV KHN MDYN VYNHG 'aTh-HTSh'aN 'aChUr HMDBUr VYB'a 'aL-HUr H'aLHYM ChUrBH.     And Moses hath been feeding the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, priest of Midian, and he leadeth the flock behind the wilderness, and cometh in unto the mount of God, to Horeb;     Moses autem pascebat oves Iethro cognati sui sacerdotis Madian cumque minasset gregem ad interiora deserti venit ad montem Dei Horeb
 
2.    The angel of Yahweh{"Yahweh" is God's proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations.} appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.     And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.     וירא  מלאך  יהוה 
אליו  בלבת־אש  מתוך
הסנה  וירא  והנה
הסנה  בער  באש
והסנה  איננו  אכל׃
    VYUr'a ML'aK YHVH 'aLYV BLBTh-'aSh MThVK HSNH VYUr'a VHNH HSNH B'yUr B'aSh VHSNH 'aYNNV 'aKL.     and there appeareth unto him a messenger of Jehovah in a flame of fire, out of the midst of the bush, and he seeth, and lo, the bush is burning with fire, and the bush is not consumed.     apparuitque ei Dominus in flamma ignis de medio rubi et videbat quod rubus arderet et non conbureretur
 
3.    Moses said, "I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt."     And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.     ויאמר  משה  אסרה־נא 
ואראה  את־המראה
הגדל  הזה  מדוע
לא־יבער  הסנה׃
    VY'aMUr MShH 'aSUrH-N'a V'aUr'aH 'aTh-HMUr'aH HGDL HZH MDV'y L'a-YB'yUr HSNH.     And Moses saith, `Let me turn aside, I pray thee, and I see this great appearance; wherefore is the bush not burned?`     dixit ergo Moses vadam et videbo visionem hanc magnam quare non conburatur rubus
 
4.    When Yahweh saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, "Moses! Moses!" He said, "Here I am."     And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.     וירא  יהוה  כי  סר 
לראות  ויקרא  אליו
אלהים  מתוך  הסנה
ויאמר  משה  משה
ויאמר  הנני׃
    VYUr'a YHVH KY SUr LUr'aVTh VYQUr'a 'aLYV 'aLHYM MThVK HSNH VY'aMUr MShH MShH VY'aMUr HNNY.     and Jehovah seeth that he hath turned aside to see, and God calleth unto him out of the midst of the bush, and saith, `Moses, Moses;` and he saith, `Here am I.`     cernens autem Dominus quod pergeret ad videndum vocavit eum de medio rubi et ait Moses Moses qui respondit adsum
 
5.    He said, "Don't come close. Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place you are standing on is holy ground."     And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.     ויאמר  אל־תקרב  הלם 
של־נעליך  מעל
רגליך  כי  המקום
אשר  אתה  עומד  עליו
אדמת־קדש  הוא׃
    VY'aMUr 'aL-ThQUrB HLM ShL-N'yLYK M'yL UrGLYK KY HMQVM 'aShUr 'aThH 'yVMD 'yLYV 'aDMTh-QDSh HV'a.     And He saith, `Come not near hither: cast thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place on which thou art standing is holy ground.`     at ille ne adpropies inquit huc solve calciamentum de pedibus tuis locus enim in quo stas terra sancta est
 
6.    Moreover he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.     Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.     ויאמר  אנכי  אלהי 
אביך  אלהי  אברהם
אלהי  יצחק  ואלהי
יעקב  ויסתר  משה
פניו  כי  ירא  מהביט
אל־האלהים׃
    VY'aMUr 'aNKY 'aLHY 'aBYK 'aLHY 'aBUrHM 'aLHY YTShChQ V'aLHY Y'yQB VYSThUr MShH PhNYV KY YUr'a MHBYT 'aL-H'aLHYM.     He saith also, `I am the God of thy father, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob;` and Moses hideth his face, for he is afraid to look towards God.     et ait ego sum Deus patris tui Deus Abraham Deus Isaac Deus Iacob abscondit Moses faciem suam non enim audebat aspicere contra Deum
 
7.    Yahweh said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.     And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;     ויאמר  יהוה  ראה 
ראיתי  את־עני  עמי
אשר  במצרים
ואת־צעקתם  שמעתי
מפני  נגשיו  כי
ידעתי  את־מכאביו׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH Ur'aH Ur'aYThY 'aTh-'yNY 'yMY 'aShUr BMTShUrYM V'aTh-TSh'yQThM ShM'yThY MPhNY NGShYV KY YD'yThY 'aTh-MK'aBYV.     And Jehovah saith, `I have certainly seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and their cry I have heard, because of its exactors, for I have known its pains;     cui ait Dominus vidi adflictionem populi mei in Aegypto et clamorem eius audivi propter duritiam eorum qui praesunt operibus
 
8.    I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.     And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.     וארד  להצילו  מיד 
מצרים  ולהעלתו
מן־הארץ  ההוא
אל־ארץ  טובה  ורחבה
אל־ארץ  זבת  חלב
ודבש  אל־מקום
הכנעני  והחתי
והאמרי  והפרזי
והחוי  והיבוסי׃
    V'aUrD LHTShYLV MYD MTShUrYM VLH'yLThV MN-H'aUrTSh HHV'a 'aL-'aUrTSh TVBH VUrChBH 'aL-'aUrTSh ZBTh ChLB VDBSh 'aL-MQVM HKN'yNY VHChThY VH'aMUrY VHPhUrZY VHChVY VHYBVSY.     and I go down to deliver it out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to cause it to go up out of the land, unto a land good and broad, unto a land flowing with milk and honey -- unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.     et sciens dolorem eius descendi ut liberarem eum de manibus Aegyptiorum et educerem de terra illa in terram bonam et spatiosam in terram quae fluit lacte et melle ad loca Chananei et Hetthei et Amorrei Ferezei et Evei et Iebusei
 
9.    Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.     Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.     ועתה  הנה  צעקת 
בני־ישראל  באה  אלי
וגם־ראיתי  את־הלחץ
אשר  מצרים  לחצים
אתם׃
    V'yThH HNH TSh'yQTh BNY-YShUr'aL B'aH 'aLY VGM-Ur'aYThY 'aTh-HLChTSh 'aShUr MTShUrYM LChTShYM 'aThM.     `And now, lo, the cry of the sons of Israel hath come in unto Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them,     clamor ergo filiorum Israhel venit ad me vidique adflictionem eorum qua ab Aegyptiis opprimuntur
 
10.    Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt."     Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.     ועתה  לכה  ואשלחך 
אל־פרעה  והוצא
את־עמי  בני־ישראל
ממצרים׃
    V'yThH LKH V'aShLChK 'aL-PhUr'yH VHVTSh'a 'aTh-'yMY BNY-YShUr'aL MMTShUrYM.     and now, come, and I send thee unto Pharaoh, and bring thou out My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.`     sed veni mittam te ad Pharaonem ut educas populum meum filios Israhel de Aegypto
 
11.    Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?"     And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?     ויאמר  משה 
אל־האלהים  מי  אנכי
כי  אלך  אל־פרעה
וכי  אוציא  את־בני
ישראל  ממצרים׃
    VY'aMUr MShH 'aL-H'aLHYM MY 'aNKY KY 'aLK 'aL-PhUr'yH VKY 'aVTShY'a 'aTh-BNY YShUr'aL MMTShUrYM.     And Moses saith unto God, `Who am I, that I go unto Pharaoh, and that I bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt?`     dixit Moses ad Deum quis ego sum ut vadam ad Pharaonem et educam filios Israhel de Aegypto
 
12.    He said, "Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain."     And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.     ויאמר  כי־אהיה  עמך 
וזה־לך  האות  כי
אנכי  שלחתיך
בהוציאך  את־העם
ממצרים  תעבדון
את־האלהים  על  ההר
הזה׃
    VY'aMUr KY-'aHYH 'yMK VZH-LK H'aVTh KY 'aNKY ShLChThYK BHVTShY'aK 'aTh-H'yM MMTShUrYM Th'yBDVN 'aTh-H'aLHYM 'yL HHUr HZH.     and He saith, `Because I am with thee, and this is to thee the sign that I have sent thee: in thy bringing out the people from Egypt -- ye do serve God on this mount.`     qui dixit ei ero tecum et hoc habebis signum quod miserim te cum eduxeris populum de Aegypto immolabis Deo super montem istum
 
13.    Moses said to God, "Behold, when I come to the children of Israel, and tell them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you;' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' What should I tell them?"     And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?     ויאמר  משה 
אל־האלהים  הנה
אנכי  בא  אל־בני
ישראל  ואמרתי  להם
אלהי  אבותיכם
שלחני  אליכם
ואמרו־לי  מה־שמו
מה  אמר  אלהם׃
    VY'aMUr MShH 'aL-H'aLHYM HNH 'aNKY B'a 'aL-BNY YShUr'aL V'aMUrThY LHM 'aLHY 'aBVThYKM ShLChNY 'aLYKM V'aMUrV-LY MH-ShMV MH 'aMUr 'aLHM.     And Moses saith unto God, `Lo, I am coming unto the sons of Israel, and have said to them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you, and they have said to me, What is His name? what do I say unto them?`     ait Moses ad Deum ecce ego vadam ad filios Israhel et dicam eis Deus patrum vestrorum misit me ad vos si dixerint mihi quod est nomen eius quid dicam eis
 
14.    God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM," and he said, "You shall tell the children of Israel this: 'I AM has sent me to you.'"     And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.     ויאמר  אלהים 
אל־משה  אהיה  אשר
אהיה  ויאמר  כה
תאמר  לבני  ישראל
אהיה  שלחני  אליכם׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLHYM 'aL-MShH 'aHYH 'aShUr 'aHYH VY'aMUr KH Th'aMUr LBNY YShUr'aL 'aHYH ShLChNY 'aLYKM.     And God saith unto Moses, `I AM THAT WHICH I AM;` He saith also, `Thus dost thou say to the sons of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.`     dixit Deus ad Mosen ego sum qui sum ait sic dices filiis Israhel qui est misit me ad vos
 
15.    God said moreover to Moses, "You shall tell the children of Israel this, 'Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.     And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.     ויאמר  עוד  אלהים 
אל־משה  כה־תאמר
אל־בני  ישראל  יהוה
אלהי  אבתיכם  אלהי
אברהם  אלהי  יצחק
ואלהי  יעקב  שלחני
אליכם  זה־שמי  לעלם
וזה  זכרי  לדר  דר׃
    VY'aMUr 'yVD 'aLHYM 'aL-MShH KH-Th'aMUr 'aL-BNY YShUr'aL YHVH 'aLHY 'aBThYKM 'aLHY 'aBUrHM 'aLHY YTShChQ V'aLHY Y'yQB ShLChNY 'aLYKM ZH-ShMY L'yLM VZH ZKUrY LDUr DUr.     And God saith again unto Moses, `Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel, Jehovah, God of your fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My name -- to the age, and this My memorial, to generation -- generation.     dixitque iterum Deus ad Mosen haec dices filiis Israhel Dominus Deus patrum vestrorum Deus Abraham Deus Isaac et Deus Iacob misit me ad vos hoc nomen mihi est in aeternum et hoc memoriale meum in generationem et generatione
 
16.    Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and tell them, 'Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, "I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt;     Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:     לך  ואספת  את־זקני 
ישראל  ואמרת  אלהם
יהוה  אלהי  אבתיכם
נראה  אלי  אלהי
אברהם  יצחק  ויעקב
לאמר  פקד  פקדתי
אתכם  ואת־העשוי
לכם  במצרים׃
    LK V'aSPhTh 'aTh-ZQNY YShUr'aL V'aMUrTh 'aLHM YHVH 'aLHY 'aBThYKM NUr'aH 'aLY 'aLHY 'aBUrHM YTShChQ VY'yQB L'aMUr PhQD PhQDThY 'aThKM V'aTh-H'yShVY LKM BMTShUrYM.     `Go, and thou hast gathered the elders of Israel, and hast said unto them: Jehovah, God of your fathers, hath appeareth unto me, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I have certainly inspected you, and that which is done to you in Egypt;     vade congrega seniores Israhel et dices ad eos Dominus Deus patrum vestrorum apparuit mihi Deus Abraham et Deus Isaac et Deus Iacob dicens visitans visitavi vos et omnia quae acciderunt vobis in Aegypto
 
17.    and I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey."'     And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.     ואמר  אעלה  אתכם 
מעני  מצרים  אל־ארץ
הכנעני  והחתי
והאמרי  והפרזי
והחוי  והיבוסי
אל־ארץ  זבת  חלב
ודבש׃
    V'aMUr 'a'yLH 'aThKM M'yNY MTShUrYM 'aL-'aUrTSh HKN'yNY VHChThY VH'aMUrY VHPhUrZY VHChVY VHYBVSY 'aL-'aUrTSh ZBTh ChLB VDBSh.     and I say, I bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt, unto the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.     et dixi ut educam vos de adflictione Aegypti in terram Chananei et Hetthei et Amorrei Ferezei et Evei et Iebusei ad terram fluentem lacte et melle
 
18.    They will listen to your voice, and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you shall tell him, 'Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh, our God.'     And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.     ושמעו  לקלך  ובאת 
אתה  וזקני  ישראל
אל־מלך  מצרים
ואמרתם  אליו  יהוה
אלהי  העבריים  נקרה
עלינו  ועתה
נלכה־נא  דרך  שלשת
ימים  במדבר  ונזבחה
ליהוה  אלהינו׃
    VShM'yV LQLK VB'aTh 'aThH VZQNY YShUr'aL 'aL-MLK MTShUrYM V'aMUrThM 'aLYV YHVH 'aLHY H'yBUrYYM NQUrH 'yLYNV V'yThH NLKH-N'a DUrK ShLShTh YMYM BMDBUr VNZBChH LYHVH 'aLHYNV.     `And they have hearkened to thy voice, and thou hast entered, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye have said unto him, Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, hath met with us; and now, let us go, we pray thee, a journey of three days into the wilderness, and we sacrifice to Jehovah our God.     et audient vocem tuam ingredierisque tu et seniores Israhel ad regem Aegypti et dices ad eum Dominus Deus Hebraeorum vocavit nos ibimus viam trium dierum per solitudinem ut immolemus Domino Deo nostro
 
19.    I know that the king of Egypt won't give you permission to go, no, not by a mighty hand.     And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.     ואני  ידעתי  כי 
לא־יתן  אתכם  מלך
מצרים  להלך  ולא
ביד  חזקה׃
    V'aNY YD'yThY KY L'a-YThN 'aThKM MLK MTShUrYM LHLK VL'a BYD ChZQH.     `And I -- I have known that the king of Egypt doth not permit you to go, unless by a strong hand,     sed ego scio quod non dimittet vos rex Aegypti ut eatis nisi per manum validam
 
20.    I will put forth my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in its midst, and after that he will let you go.     And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.     ושלחתי  את־ידי 
והכיתי  את־מצרים
בכל  נפלאתי  אשר
אעשה  בקרבו
ואחרי־כן  ישלח
אתכם׃
    VShLChThY 'aTh-YDY VHKYThY 'aTh-MTShUrYM BKL NPhL'aThY 'aShUr 'a'yShH BQUrBV V'aChUrY-KN YShLCh 'aThKM.     and I have put forth My hand, and have smitten Egypt with all My wonders, which I do in its midst -- and afterwards he doth send you away.     extendam enim manum meam et percutiam Aegyptum in cunctis mirabilibus meis quae facturus sum in medio eorum post haec dimittet vos
 
21.    I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, and it will happen that when you go, you shall not go empty-handed.     And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:     ונתתי  את־חן 
העם־הזה  בעיני
מצרים  והיה  כי
תלכון  לא  תלכו
ריקם׃
    VNThThY 'aTh-ChN H'yM-HZH B'yYNY MTShUrYM VHYH KY ThLKVN L'a ThLKV UrYQM.     `And I have given the grace of this people in the eyes of the Egyptians, and it hath come to pass, when ye go, ye go not empty;     daboque gratiam populo huic coram Aegyptiis et cum egrediemini non exibitis vacui
 
22.    But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her who visits her house, jewels of silver, jewels of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons, and on your daughters. You shall plunder the Egyptians."     But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.     ושאלה  אשה  משכנתה 
ומגרת  ביתה
כלי־כסף  וכלי  זהב
ושמלת  ושמתם  על־
בניכם  ועל־בנתיכם
ונצלתם  את־מצרים׃
