1.    Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.     Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.     לץ  היין  המה  שכר

    LTSh HYYN HMH ShKUr VKL-ShGH BV L'a YChKM.     Wine is a scorner -- strong drink is noisy, And any going astray in it is not wise.     luxuriosa res vinum et tumultuosa ebrietas quicumque his delectatur non erit sapiens
 
2.    The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.     The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.     נהם  ככפיר  אימת

נפשו׃
    NHM KKPhYUr 'aYMTh MLK MTh'yBUrV ChVT'a NPhShV.     The fear of a king is a growl as of a young lion, He who is causing him to be wroth is wronging his soul.     sicut rugitus leonis ita terror regis qui provocat eum peccat in animam suam
 
3.    It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife; but every fool will be quarreling.     It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.     כבוד  לאיש  שבת

יתגלע׃
    KBVD L'aYSh ShBTh MUrYB VKL-'aVYL YThGL'y.     An honour to a man is cessation from strife, And every fool intermeddleth.     honor est homini qui separat se a contentionibus omnes autem stulti miscentur contumeliis
 
4.    The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.     The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.     מחרף  עצל  לא־יחרש 
ישאל  בקציר  ואין׃
    MChUrPh 'yTShL L'a-YChUrSh YSh'aL BQTShYUr V'aYN.     Because of winter the slothful plougheth not, He asketh in harvest, and there is nothing.     propter frigus piger arare noluit mendicabit ergo aestate et non dabitur ei
 
5.    Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.     Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.     מים  עמקים  עצה 
בלב־איש  ואיש
תבונה  ידלנה׃
    MYM 'yMQYM 'yTShH BLB-'aYSh V'aYSh ThBVNH YDLNH.     Counsel in the heart of a man is deep water, And a man of understanding draweth it up.     sicut aqua profunda sic consilium in corde viri sed homo sapiens exhauriet illud
 
6.    Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?     Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?     רב־אדם  יקרא  איש 
חסדו  ואיש  אמונים
מי  ימצא׃
    UrB-'aDM YQUr'a 'aYSh ChSDV V'aYSh 'aMVNYM MY YMTSh'a.     A multitude of men proclaim each his kindness, And a man of stedfastness who doth find?     multi homines misericordes vocantur virum autem fidelem quis inveniet
 
7.    A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.     The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.     מתהלך  בתמו  צדיק 
אשרי  בניו  אחריו׃
    MThHLK BThMV TShDYQ 'aShUrY BNYV 'aChUrYV.     The righteous is walking habitually in his integrity, O the happiness of his sons after him!     iustus qui ambulat in simplicitate sua beatos post se filios derelinquet
 
8.    A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.     A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.     מלך  יושב 
על־כסא־דין  מזרה
בעיניו  כל־רע׃
    MLK YVShB 'yL-KS'a-DYN MZUrH B'yYNYV KL-Ur'y.     A king sitting on a throne of judgment, Is scattering with his eyes all evil,     rex qui sedet in solio iudicii dissipat omne malum intuitu suo
 
9.    Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"     Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?     מי־יאמר  זכיתי  לבי 
טהרתי  מחטאתי׃
    MY-Y'aMUr ZKYThY LBY THUrThY MChT'aThY.     Who saith, `I have purified my heart, I have been cleansed from my sin?`     quis potest dicere mundum est cor meum purus sum a peccato
 
10.    Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.     Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.     אבן  ואבן  איפה 
ואיפה  תועבת  יהוה
גם־שניהם׃
    'aBN V'aBN 'aYPhH V'aYPhH ThV'yBTh YHVH GM-ShNYHM.     A stone and a stone, an ephah and an ephah, Even both of them are an abomination to Jehovah.     pondus et pondus mensura et mensura utrumque abominabile est apud Deum
 
11.    Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.     Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.     גם  במעלליו 
יתנכר־נער  אם־זך
ואם־ישר  פעלו׃
    GM BM'yLLYV YThNKUr-N'yUr 'aM-ZK V'aM-YShUr Ph'yLV.     Even by his actions a youth maketh himself known, Whether his work be pure or upright.     ex studiis suis intellegitur puer si munda et si recta sint opera eius
 
12.    The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Yahweh has made even both of them.     The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.     אזן  שמעת  ועין  ראה

    'aZN ShM'yTh V'yYN Ur'aH YHVH 'yShH GM-ShNYHM.     A hearing ear, and a seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.     aurem audientem et oculum videntem Dominus fecit utrumque
 
13.    Don't love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.     Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.     אל־תאהב  שנה 
פן־תורש  פקח  עיניך
שבע־לחם׃
    'aL-Th'aHB ShNH PhN-ThVUrSh PhQCh 'yYNYK ShB'y-LChM.     Love not sleep, lest thou become poor, Open thine eyes -- be satisfied with bread.     noli diligere somnum ne te egestas opprimat aperi oculos tuos et saturare panibus
 
14.    "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.     It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.     רע  רע  יאמר  הקונה 
ואזל  לו  אז  יתהלל׃
    Ur'y Ur'y Y'aMUr HQVNH V'aZL LV 'aZ YThHLL.     `Bad, bad,` saith the buyer, And going his way then he boasteth himself.     malum est malum est dicit omnis emptor et cum recesserit tunc gloriabitur
 
15.    There is gold and abundance of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.     There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.     יש  זהב  ורב־פנינים

    YSh ZHB VUrB-PhNYNYM VKLY YQUr ShPhThY-D'yTh.     Substance, gold, and a multitude of rubies, Yea, a precious vessel, are lips of knowledge.     est aurum et multitudo gemmarum vas autem pretiosum labia scientiae
 
16.    Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.     Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.     לקח־בגדו  כי־ערב 
זר  ובעד  נכרים
חבלהו׃
    LQCh-BGDV KY-'yUrB ZUr VB'yD NKUrYM ChBLHV.     Take his garment when a stranger hath been surety, And for strangers pledge it.     tolle vestimentum eius qui fideiussor extitit alieni et pro extraneis aufer pignus ab eo
 
17.    Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.     Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.     ערב  לאיש  לחם  שקר 
ואחר  ימלא־פיהו
חצץ׃
    'yUrB L'aYSh LChM ShQUr V'aChUr YML'a-PhYHV ChTShTSh.     Sweet to a man is the bread of falsehood, And afterwards is his mouth filled with gravel.     suavis est homini panis mendacii et postea implebitur os eius calculo
 
18.    Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war!     Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.     מחשבות  בעצה  תכון 
ובתחבלות  עשה
מלחמה׃
    MChShBVTh B'yTShH ThKVN VBThChBLVTh 'yShH MLChMH.     Purposes by counsel thou dost establish, And with plans make thou war.     cogitationes consiliis roborantur et gubernaculis tractanda sunt bella
 
19.    He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore don't keep company with him who opens wide his lips.     He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.     גולה־סוד  הולך 
רכיל  ולפתה  שפתיו
לא  תתערב׃
    GVLH-SVD HVLK UrKYL VLPhThH ShPhThYV L'a ThTh'yUrB.     A revealer of secret counsels is the busybody, And for a deceiver with his lips make not thyself surety.     ei qui revelat mysteria et ambulat fraudulenter et dilatat labia sua ne commiscearis
 
20.    Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.     Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.     מקלל  אביו  ואמו 
ידעך  נרו  באישון
חשך׃
    MQLL 'aBYV V'aMV YD'yK NUrV B'aYShVN ChShK.     Whoso is vilifying his father and his mother, Extinguished is his lamp in blackness of darkness.     qui maledicit patri suo et matri extinguetur lucerna eius in mediis tenebris
 
21.    An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won't be blessed in the end.     An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.     נחלה  מבחלת  בראשנה 
ואחריתה  לא  תברך׃
    NChLH MBChLTh BUr'aShNH V'aChUrYThH L'a ThBUrK.     An inheritance gotten wrongly at first, Even its latter end is not blessed.     hereditas ad quam festinatur in principio in novissimo benedictione carebit
 
22.    Don't say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you.     Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.     אל־תאמר  אשלמה־רע 
קוה  ליהוה  וישע
לך׃
    'aL-Th'aMUr 'aShLMH-Ur'y QVH LYHVH VYSh'y LK.     Do not say, `I recompense evil,` Wait for Jehovah, and He delivereth thee.     ne dicas reddam malum expecta Dominum et liberabit te
 
23.    Yahweh detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.     Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.     תועבת  יהוה  אבן 
ואבן  ומאזני  מרמה
לא־טוב׃
    ThV'yBTh YHVH 'aBN V'aBN VM'aZNY MUrMH L'a-TVB.     An abomination to Jehovah are a stone and a stone, And balances of deceit are not good.     abominatio est apud Deum pondus et pondus statera dolosa non est bona
 
24.    A man's steps are from Yahweh; how then can man understand his way?     Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?     מיהוה  מצעדי־גבר 
ואדם  מה־יבין
דרכו׃
    MYHVH MTSh'yDY-GBUr V'aDM MH-YBYN DUrKV.     From Jehovah are the steps of a man, And man -- how understandeth he his way?     a Domino diriguntur gressus viri quis autem hominum intellegere potest viam suam
 
25.    It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.     It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.     מוקש  אדם  ילע  קדש 
ואחר  נדרים  לבקר׃
    MVQSh 'aDM YL'y QDSh V'aChUr NDUrYM LBQUr.     A snare to a man is he hath swallowed a holy thing, And after vows to make inquiry.     ruina est hominis devorare sanctos et post vota tractare
 
26.    A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.     A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.     מזרה  רשעים  מלך 
חכם  וישב  עליהם
אופן׃
    MZUrH UrSh'yYM MLK ChKM VYShB 'yLYHM 'aVPhN.     A wise king is scattering the wicked, And turneth back on them the wheel.     dissipat impios rex sapiens et curvat super eos fornicem
 
27.    The spirit of man is Yahweh's lamp, searching all his innermost parts.     The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.     נר  יהוה  נשמת  אדם 
חפש  כל־חדרי־בטן׃
    NUr YHVH NShMTh 'aDM ChPhSh KL-ChDUrY-BTN.     The breath of man is a lamp of Jehovah, Searching all the inner parts of the heart.     lucerna Domini spiraculum hominis quae investigat omnia secreta ventris
 
28.    Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.     Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.     חסד  ואמת  יצרו־מלך 
וסעד  בחסד  כסאו׃
    ChSD V'aMTh YTShUrV-MLK VS'yD BChSD KS'aV.     Kindness and truth keep a king, And he hath supported by kindness his throne.     misericordia et veritas custodiunt regem et roboratur clementia thronus eius
 
29.    The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.     The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.     תפארת  בחורים  כחם 
והדר  זקנים  שיבה׃
    ThPh'aUrTh BChVUrYM KChM VHDUr ZQNYM ShYBH.     The beauty of young men is their strength, And the honour of old men is grey hairs.     exultatio iuvenum fortitudo eorum et dignitas senum canities
 
30.    Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.     The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.     חברות  פצע  תמריק

    ChBUrVTh PhTSh'y ThMUrYQ BUr'y VMKVTh ChDUrY-BTN.     The bandages of a wound thou removest with the evil, Also the plagues of the inner parts of the heart!     livor vulneris absterget mala et plagae in secretioribus ventris
