1.    Woe to Ariel! Ariel, the city where David encamped! Add year to year; let the feasts come around;     Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.     הוי  אריאל  אריאל

    HVY 'aUrY'aL 'aUrY'aL QUrYTh ChNH DVD SPhV ShNH 'yL-ShNH ChGYM YNQPhV.     Wo to Ariel, Ariel, The city of the encampment of David! Add year to year, let festivals go round.     vae Arihel Arihel civitas quam circumdedit David additus est annus ad annum sollemnitates evolutae sunt
 
2.    then I will distress Ariel, and there will be mourning and lamentation. She shall be to me as an altar hearth{or, Ariel}.     Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.     והציקותי  לאריאל 
והיתה  תאניה  ואניה
והיתה  לי  כאריאל׃
    VHTShYQVThY L'aUrY'aL VHYThH Th'aNYH V'aNYH VHYThH LY K'aUrY'aL.     And I have sent distress to Ariel, And it hath been lamentation and mourning, And it hath been to me as Ariel.     et circumvallabo Arihel et erit tristis et maerens et erit mihi quasi Arihel
 
3.    I will encamp against you all around you, and will lay siege against you with posted troops. I will raise siege works against you.     And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.     וחניתי  כדור  עליך 
וצרתי  עליך  מצב
והקימתי  עליך
מצרת׃
    VChNYThY KDVUr 'yLYK VTShUrThY 'yLYK MTShB VHQYMThY 'yLYK MTShUrTh.     And I encamped, O babbler, against thee, And I laid siege against thee -- a camp. And I raised up against thee bulwarks.     et circumdabo quasi spheram in circuitu tuo et iaciam contra te aggerem et munimenta ponam in obsidionem tuam
 
4.    You will be brought down, and will speak out of the ground. Your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will be as of one who has a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and your speech will whisper out of the dust.     And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.     ושפלת  מארץ  תדברי 
ומעפר  תשח  אמרתך
והיה  כאוב  מארץ
קולך  ומעפר  אמרתך
תצפצף׃
    VShPhLTh M'aUrTSh ThDBUrY VM'yPhUr ThShCh 'aMUrThK VHYH K'aVB M'aUrTSh QVLK VM'yPhUr 'aMUrThK ThTShPhTShPh.     And thou hast been low, From the earth thou speakest, And from the dust makest thy saying low, And thy voice hath been from the earth, As one having a familiar spirit, And from the dust thy saying whisperest,     humiliaberis de terra loqueris et de humo audietur eloquium tuum et erit quasi pythonis de terra vox tua et de humo eloquium tuum mussitabit
 
5.    But the multitude of your foes will be like fine dust, and the multitude of the ruthless ones like chaff that blows away. Yes, it will be in an instant, suddenly.     Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.     והיה  כאבק  דק  המון 
זריך  וכמץ  עבר
המון  עריצים  והיה
לפתע  פתאם׃
    VHYH K'aBQ DQ HMVN ZUrYK VKMTSh 'yBUr HMVN 'yUrYTShYM VHYH LPhTh'y PhTh'aM.     And as small dust hath been The multitude of those scattering thee, And as chaff passing on the multitude of the terrible, And it hath been at an instant -- suddenly.     et erit sicut pulvis tenuis multitudo ventilantium te et sicut favilla pertransiens multitudo eorum qui contra te praevaluerunt
 
6.    She will be visited by Yahweh of Armies with thunder, with earthquake, with great noise, with whirlwind and storm, and with the flame of a devouring fire.     Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.     מעם  יהוה  צבאות 
תפקד  ברעם  וברעש
וקול  גדול  סופה
וסערה  ולהב  אש
אוכלה׃
    M'yM YHVH TShB'aVTh ThPhQD BUr'yM VBUr'ySh VQVL GDVL SVPhH VS'yUrH VLHB 'aSh 'aVKLH.     By Jehovah of Hosts thou art inspected, With thunder, and with an earthquake, And great noise, hurricane, and whirlwind, And flame of devouring fire.     eritque repente confestim a Domino exercituum visitabitur in tonitru et commotione terrae et voce magna turbinis et tempestatis et flammae ignis devorantis
 
7.    The multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all who fight against her and her stronghold, and who distress her, will be like a dream, a vision of the night.     And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.     והיה  כחלום  חזון 
לילה  המון
כל־הגוים  הצבאים
על־אריאל  וכל־צביה
ומצדתה  והמציקים
לה׃
    VHYH KChLVM ChZVN LYLH HMVN KL-HGVYM HTShB'aYM 'yL-'aUrY'aL VKL-TShBYH VMTShDThH VHMTShYQYM LH.     And as a dream, a vision of night, hath been The multitude of all the nations Who are warring against Ariel, And all its warriors, and its bulwark, Even of those distressing her.     et erit sicut somnium visionis nocturnae multitudo omnium gentium quae dimicaverunt contra Arihel et omnes qui militaverunt et obsederunt et praevaluerunt adversus eam
 
8.    It will be like when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he eats; but he awakes, and his hunger isn't satisfied; or like when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he drinks; but he awakes, and behold, he is faint, and he is still thirsty. The multitude of all the nations that fight against Mount Zion will be like that.     It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.     והיה  כאשר  יחלם 
הרעב  והנה  אוכל
והקיץ  וריקה  נפשו
וכאשר  יחלם  הצמא
והנה  שתה  והקיץ
והנה  עיף  ונפשו
שוקקה  כן  יהיה
המון  כל־הגוים
הצבאים  על־הר
ציון׃
    VHYH K'aShUr YChLM HUr'yB VHNH 'aVKL VHQYTSh VUrYQH NPhShV VK'aShUr YChLM HTShM'a VHNH ShThH VHQYTSh VHNH 'yYPh VNPhShV ShVQQH KN YHYH HMVN KL-HGVYM HTShB'aYM 'yL-HUr TShYVN.     And it hath been, as when the hungry dreameth, And lo, he is eating, And he hath waked, and empty is his soul, And as when the thirsty dreameth, And lo, he is drinking, and he hath waked, And lo, he is weary, and his soul is longing, So is the multitude of all the nations Who are warring against mount Zion.     et sicuti somniat esuriens et comedit cum autem fuerit expertus vacua est anima eius et sicut somniat sitiens et bibit et postquam fuerit expergefactus lassus adhuc sitit et anima eius vacua est sic erit multitudo omnium gentium quae dimicaverunt contra montem Sion
 
9.    Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind! They are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.     Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.     התמהמהו  ותמהו 
השתעשעו  ושעו  שכרו
ולא־יין  נעו  ולא
שכר׃
    HThMHMHV VThMHV HShTh'ySh'yV VSh'yV ShKUrV VL'a-YYN N'yV VL'a ShKUr.     Tarry and wonder, look ye, yea, look, Be drunk, and not with wine, Stagger, and not with strong drink.     obstupescite et admiramini fluctuate et vacillate inebriamini et non a vino movemini et non ebrietate
 
10.    For Yahweh has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets; and he has covered your heads, the seers.     For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.     כי־נסך  עליכם  יהוה 
רוח  תרדמה  ויעצם
את־עיניכם
את־הנביאים  ואת־
ראשיכם  החזים  כסה׃
    KY-NSK 'yLYKM YHVH UrVCh ThUrDMH VY'yTShM 'aTh-'yYNYKM 'aTh-HNBY'aYM V'aTh- Ur'aShYKM HChZYM KSH.     For poured out on you hath Jehovah a spirit of deep sleep, And He closeth your eyes -- the prophets, And your heads -- the seers -- He covered.     quoniam miscuit vobis Dominus spiritum soporis claudet oculos vestros prophetas et principes vestros qui vident visiones operiet
 
11.    All vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is educated, saying, "Read this, please;" and he says, "I can't, for it is sealed:"     And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:     ותהי  לכם  חזות  הכל 
כדברי  הספר  החתום
אשר־יתנו  אתו
אל־יודע  הספר  לאמר
קרא  נא־זה  ואמר  לא
אוכל  כי  חתום  הוא׃
    VThHY LKM ChZVTh HKL KDBUrY HSPhUr HChThVM 'aShUr-YThNV 'aThV 'aL-YVD'y HSPhUr L'aMUr QUr'a N'a-ZH V'aMUr L'a 'aVKL KY ChThVM HV'a.     And the vision of the whole is to you, As words of the sealed book, That they give unto one knowing books, Saying, `Read this, we pray thee,` And he hath said, `I am not able, for it is sealed;`     et erit vobis visio omnium sicut verba libri signati quem cum dederint scienti litteras dicent lege istum et respondebit non possum signatus est enim
 
12.    and the book is delivered to one who is not educated, saying, "Read this, please;" and he says, "I can't read."     And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.     ונתן  הספר  על  אשר 
לא־ידע  ספר  לאמר
קרא  נא־זה  ואמר  לא
ידעתי  ספר׃
    VNThN HSPhUr 'yL 'aShUr L'a-YD'y SPhUr L'aMUr QUr'a N'a-ZH V'aMUr L'a YD'yThY SPhUr.     And the book is given to him who hath not known books, Saying, `Read this, we pray thee,` And he hath said, `I have not known books.`     et dabitur liber nescienti litteras diceturque ei lege et respondebit nescio litteras
 
13.    The Lord said, "Because this people draws near with their mouth and with their lips to honor me, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught;     Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:     ויאמר  אדני  יען  כי 
נגש  העם  הזה  בפיו
ובשפתיו  כבדוני
ולבו  רחק  ממני
ותהי  יראתם  אתי
מצות  אנשים  מלמדה׃
    VY'aMUr 'aDNY Y'yN KY NGSh H'yM HZH BPhYV VBShPhThYV KBDVNY VLBV UrChQ MMNY VThHY YUr'aThM 'aThY MTShVTh 'aNShYM MLMDH.     And the Lord saith: Because drawn near hath this people, with its mouth, And with its lips they have honoured Me, And its heart it hath put far off from Me, And their fear of Me is -- A precept of men is taught!     et dixit Dominus eo quod adpropinquat populus iste ore suo et labiis suis glorificat me cor autem eius longe est a me et timuerunt me mandato hominum et doctrinis
 
14.    therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the understanding of their prudent men will be hidden."     Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.     לכן  הנני  יוסף 
להפליא  את־העם־הזה
הפלא  ופלא  ואבדה
חכמת  חכמיו  ובינת
נבניו  תסתתר׃
    LKN HNNY YVSPh LHPhLY'a 'aTh-H'yM-HZH HPhL'a VPhL'a V'aBDH ChKMTh ChKMYV VBYNTh NBNYV ThSThThUr.     Therefore, lo, I am adding to do wonderfully with this people, A wonder, and a marvel, And perished hath the wisdom of its wise ones, And the understanding of its intelligent ones hideth itself.`     ideo ecce ego addam ut admirationem faciam populo huic miraculo grandi et stupendo peribit enim sapientia a sapientibus eius et intellectus prudentium eius abscondetur
 
15.    Woe to those who deeply hide their counsel from Yahweh, and whose works are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us?" and "Who knows us?"     Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?     הוי  המעמיקים 
מיהוה  לסתר  עצה
והיה  במחשך  מעשיהם
ויאמרו  מי  ראנו
ומי  יודענו׃
    HVY HM'yMYQYM MYHVH LSThUr 'yTShH VHYH BMChShK M'yShYHM VY'aMUrV MY Ur'aNV VMY YVD'yNV.     Wo to those going deep from Jehovah to hide counsel, And whose works have been in darkness. And they say, `Who is seeing us? And who is knowing us?`     vae qui profundi estis corde ut a Domino abscondatis consilium quorum sunt in tenebris opera et dicunt quis videt nos et quis novit nos
 
16.    You turn things upside down! Should the potter be thought to be like clay; that the thing made should say about him who made it, "He didn't make me;" or the thing formed say of him who formed it, "He has no understanding?"     Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?     הפככם  אם־כחמר 
היצר  יחשב  כי־יאמר
מעשה  לעשהו  לא
עשני  ויצר  אמר
ליוצרו  לא  הבין׃
    HPhKKM 'aM-KChMUr HYTShUr YChShB KY-Y'aMUr M'yShH L'yShHV L'a 'yShNY VYTShUr 'aMUr LYVTShUrV L'a HBYN.     Your perversion! as clay is the potter esteemed? That the work saith of its maker, `He hath not made me?` And the framed thing said of its framer, `He did not understand?`     perversa est haec vestra cogitatio quasi lutum contra figulum cogitet et dicat opus factori suo non fecisti me et figmentum dicat fictori suo non intellegis
 
17.    Isn't it yet a very little while, and Lebanon will be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field will be regarded as a forest?     Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?     הלוא־עוד  מעט  מזער 
ושב  לבנון  לכרמל
והכרמל  ליער  יחשב׃
    HLV'a-'yVD M'yT MZ'yUr VShB LBNVN LKUrML VHKUrML LY'yUr YChShB.     Is it not yet a very little, And turned hath Lebanon to a fruitful field, And the fruitful field for a forest is reckoned?     nonne adhuc in modico et in brevi convertetur Libanus in Chermel et Chermel in saltum reputabitur
 
18.    In that day, the deaf will hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind will see out of obscurity and out of darkness.     And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.     ושמעו  ביום־ההוא 
החרשים  דברי־ספר
ומאפל  ומחשך  עיני
עורים  תראינה׃
    VShM'yV BYVM-HHV'a HChUrShYM DBUrY-SPhUr VM'aPhL VMChShK 'yYNY 'yVUrYM ThUr'aYNH.     And heard in that day have the deaf the words of a book, And out of thick darkness, and out of darkness, The eyes of the blind do see.     et audient in die illa surdi verba libri et de tenebris et caligine oculi caecorum videbunt
 
19.    The humble also will increase their joy in Yahweh, and the poor among men will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.     The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.     ויספו  ענוים  ביהוה 
שמחה  ואביוני  אדם
בקדוש  ישראל
יגילו׃
    VYSPhV 'yNVYM BYHVH ShMChH V'aBYVNY 'aDM BQDVSh YShUr'aL YGYLV.     And the humble have added joy in Jehovah, And the poor among men In the Holy One of Israel rejoice.     et addent mites in Domino laetitiam et pauperes homines in Sancto Israhel exultabunt
 
20.    For the ruthless is brought to nothing, and the scoffer ceases, and all those who are alert to do evil are cut off--     For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:     כי־אפס  עריץ  וכלה 
לץ  ונכרתו  כל־שקדי
און׃
    KY-'aPhS 'yUrYTSh VKLH LTSh VNKUrThV KL-ShQDY 'aVN.     For ceased hath the terrible one, And consumed hath been the scorner, And cut off have been all watching for iniquity,     quoniam defecit qui praevalebat consummatus est inlusor et succisi sunt omnes qui vigilabant super iniquitatem
 
21.    who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for the arbiter in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony.     That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.     מחטיאי  אדם  בדבר 
ולמוכיח  בשער
יקשון  ויטו  בתהו
צדיק׃
    MChTY'aY 'aDM BDBUr VLMVKYCh BSh'yUr YQShVN VYTV BThHV TShDYQ.     Causing men to sin in word, And for a reprover in the gate lay a snare, And turn aside into emptiness the righteous.     qui peccare faciebant homines in verbo et arguentem in porta subplantabant et declinaverunt frustra a iusto
 
22.    Therefore thus says Yahweh, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: "Jacob shall no longer be ashamed, neither shall his face grow pale.     Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.     לכן  כה־אמר  יהוה 
אל־בית  יעקב  אשר
פדה  את־אברהם
לא־עתה  יבוש  יעקב
ולא  עתה  פניו
יחורו׃
    LKN KH-'aMUr YHVH 'aL-BYTh Y'yQB 'aShUr PhDH 'aTh-'aBUrHM L'a-'yThH YBVSh Y'yQB VL'a 'yThH PhNYV YChVUrV.     Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Who ransomed Abraham, Concerning the house of Jacob: `Not now ashamed is Jacob, Nor now doth his face become pale,     propter hoc haec dicit Dominus ad domum Iacob qui redemit Abraham non modo confundetur Iacob nec modo vultus eius erubescet
 
23.    But when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they will sanctify my name. Yes, they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.     But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.     כי  בראתו  ילדיו 
מעשה  ידי  בקרבו
יקדישו  שמי
והקדישו  את־קדוש
יעקב  ואת־אלהי
ישראל  יעריצו׃
    KY BUr'aThV YLDYV M'yShH YDY BQUrBV YQDYShV ShMY VHQDYShV 'aTh-QDVSh Y'yQB V'aTh-'aLHY YShUr'aL Y'yUrYTShV.     For in his seeing his children, The work of My hand, in his midst, They sanctify My name, And have sanctified the Holy One of Jacob, And the God of Israel they declare fearful.     sed cum viderit filios suos opera manuum mearum in medio sui sanctificantes nomen meum et sanctificabunt Sanctum Iacob et Deum Israhel praedicabunt
 
24.    They also who err in spirit will come to understanding, and those who grumble will receive instruction."     They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.     וידעו  תעי־רוח 
בינה  ורוגנים
ילמדו־לקח׃
    VYD'yV Th'yY-UrVCh BYNH VUrVGNYM YLMDV-LQCh.     And the erring in spirit have known understanding, And murmurers learn doctrine!`     et scient errantes spiritu intellectum et mussitatores discent legem
