1.    The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.     The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.     אשר  היה  דבר־יהוה 
אל־ירמיהו  על־דברי
הבצרות׃
    'aShUr HYH DBUr-YHVH 'aL-YUrMYHV 'yL-DBUrY HBTShUrVTh.     That which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the matters of the dearths:     quod factum est verbum Domini ad Hieremiam de sermonibus siccitatis
 
2.    Judah mourns, and its gates languish, they sit in black on the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.     Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.     אבלה  יהודה  ושעריה 
אמללו  קדרו  לארץ
וצוחת  ירושלם
עלתה׃
    'aBLH YHVDH VSh'yUrYH 'aMLLV QDUrV L'aUrTSh VTShVChTh YUrVShLM 'yLThH.     Mourned hath Judah, and her gates have languished, They have mourned to the earth, And the cry of Jerusalem hath gone up.     luxit Iudaea et portae eius corruerunt et obscuratae sunt in terra et clamor Hierusalem ascendit
 
3.    Their nobles send their little ones to the waters: they come to the cisterns, and find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.     And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.     ואדריהם  שלחו 
צעוריהם  למים  באו
על־גבים  לא־מצאו
מים  שבו  כליהם
ריקם  בשו  והכלמו
וחפו  ראשם׃
    V'aDUrYHM ShLChV TSh'yVUrYHM LMYM B'aV 'yL-GBYM L'a-MTSh'aV MYM ShBV KLYHM UrYQM BShV VHKLMV VChPhV Ur'aShM.     And their honourable ones have sent their little ones to the water, They have come unto ditches, They have not found water, They have turned back -- their vessels empty! They have been ashamed, And have blushed and covered their head.     maiores miserunt minores suos ad aquam venerunt ad hauriendum non invenerunt aquam reportaverunt vasa sua vacua confusi sunt et adflicti et operuerunt capita sua
 
4.    Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed, they cover their heads.     Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.     בעבור  האדמה  חתה 
כי  לא־היה  גשם
בארץ  בשו  אכרים
חפו  ראשם׃
    B'yBVUr H'aDMH ChThH KY L'a-HYH GShM B'aUrTSh BShV 'aKUrYM ChPhV Ur'aShM.     Because the ground hath been broken, For there hath been no rain in the land, Ashamed have been husbandmen, They have covered their head.     propter terrae vastitatem quia non venit pluvia in terra confusi sunt agricolae operuerunt capita sua
 
5.    Yes, the hind also in the field calves, and forsakes [her young], because there is no grass.     Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.     כי  גם־אילת  בשדה 
ילדה  ועזוב  כי
לא־היה  דשא׃
    KY GM-'aYLTh BShDH YLDH V'yZVB KY L'a-HYH DSh'a.     For even the hind in the field hath brought forth -- to forsake it! For there hath been no grass.     nam et cerva in agro peperit et reliquit quia non erat herba
 
6.    The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.     And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.     ופראים  עמדו 
על־שפים  שאפו  רוח
כתנים  כלו  עיניהם
כי־אין  עשב׃
    VPhUr'aYM 'yMDV 'yL-ShPhYM Sh'aPhV UrVCh KThNYM KLV 'yYNYHM KY-'aYN 'yShB.     And wild asses have stood on high places, They have swallowed up wind like dragons, Consumed have been their eyes, for there is no herb.     et onagri steterunt in rupibus traxerunt ventum quasi dracones defecerunt oculi eorum quia non erat herba
 
7.    Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name's sake, Yahweh; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you.     O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.     אם־עונינו  ענו  בנו 
יהוה  עשה  למען  שמך
כי־רבו  משובתינו
לך  חטאנו׃
    'aM-'yVNYNV 'yNV BNV YHVH 'yShH LM'yN ShMK KY-UrBV MShVBThYNV LK ChT'aNV.     Surely our iniquities have testified against us, O Jehovah, work for Thy name`s sake, For many have been our backslidings, Against Thee we have sinned.     si iniquitates nostrae responderunt nobis Domine fac propter nomen tuum quoniam multae sunt aversiones nostrae tibi peccavimus
 
8.    You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?     O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?     מקוה  ישראל  מושיעו 
בעת  צרה  למה  תהיה
כגר  בארץ  וכארח
נטה  ללון׃
    MQVH YShUr'aL MVShY'yV B'yTh TShUrH LMH ThHYH KGUr B'aUrTSh VK'aUrCh NTH LLVN.     O Hope of Israel -- its saviour in time of trouble, Why art Thou as a sojourner in the land? And as a traveller turned aside to lodge?     expectatio Israhel salvator eius in tempore tribulationis quare quasi colonus futurus es in terra et quasi viator declinans ad manendum
 
9.    Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can't save? Yet you, Yahweh, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; don't leave us.     Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.     למה  תהיה  כאיש 
נדהם  כגבור
לא־יוכל  להושיע
ואתה  בקרבנו  יהוה
ושמך  עלינו  נקרא
אל־תנחנו׃
    LMH ThHYH K'aYSh NDHM KGBVUr L'a-YVKL LHVShY'y V'aThH BQUrBNV YHVH VShMK 'yLYNV NQUr'a 'aL-ThNChNV.     Why art Thou as one dumb? As a mighty one not able to save? And Thou art in our midst, O Jehovah, And Thy name over us is called, leave us not.     quare futurus es velut vir vagus ut fortis qui non potest salvare tu autem in nobis es Domine et nomen tuum super nos invocatum est ne derelinquas nos
 
10.    Thus says Yahweh to this people, Even so have they loved to wander; they have not refrained their feet: therefore Yahweh does not accept them; now he will remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.     Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.     כה־אמר  יהוה  לעם 
הזה  כן  אהבו  לנוע
רגליהם  לא  חשכו
ויהוה  לא  רצם  עתה
יזכר  עונם  ויפקד
חטאתם׃
    KH-'aMUr YHVH L'yM HZH KN 'aHBV LNV'y UrGLYHM L'a ChShKV VYHVH L'a UrTShM 'yThH YZKUr 'yVNM VYPhQD ChT'aThM.     Thus said Jehovah concerning this people: Well they have loved to wander, Their feet they have not restrained, And Jehovah hath not accepted them, Now doth He remember their iniquity, And inspect their sin.     haec dicit Dominus populo huic qui dilexit movere pedes suos et non quievit et Domino non placuit nunc recordabitur iniquitatum eorum et visitabit peccata eorum
 
11.    Yahweh said to me, Don't pray for this people for [their] good.     Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.     ויאמר  יהוה  אלי 
אל־תתפלל  בעד־העם
הזה  לטובה׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLY 'aL-ThThPhLL B'yD-H'yM HZH LTVBH.     And Jehovah saith unto me: Thou dost not pray for this people for good,     et dixit Dominus ad me noli orare pro populo isto in bonum
 
12.    When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.     When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.     כי  יצמו  אינני  שמע 
אל־רנתם  וכי  יעלו
עלה  ומנחה  אינני
רצם  כי  בחרב  וברעב
ובדבר  אנכי  מכלה
אותם׃
    KY YTShMV 'aYNNY ShM'y 'aL-UrNThM VKY Y'yLV 'yLH VMNChH 'aYNNY UrTShM KY BChUrB VBUr'yB VBDBUr 'aNKY MKLH 'aVThM.     When they fast, I hearken not unto their cry, And when they cause to ascend burnt-offering and present, I accept them not, For by sword, and by famine, And by pestilence, I am consuming them.     cum ieiunaverint non exaudiam preces eorum et si obtulerint holocaustomata et victimas non suscipiam ea quoniam gladio et fame et peste ego consumam eos
 
13.    Then said I, Ah, Lord Yahweh! behold, the prophets tell them, You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.     Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.     ואמר  אהה  אדני 
יהוה  הנה  הנבאים
אמרים  להם  לא־תראו
חרב  ורעב  לא־  יהיה
לכם  כי־שלום  אמת
אתן  לכם  במקום
הזה׃
    V'aMUr 'aHH 'aDNY YHVH HNH HNB'aYM 'aMUrYM LHM L'a-ThUr'aV ChUrB VUr'yB L'a- YHYH LKM KY-ShLVM 'aMTh 'aThN LKM BMQVM HZH.     And I say, `Ah, Lord Jehovah, Lo, the prophets are saying to them: Ye do not see a sword, yea, famine is not to you, For true peace I give to you in this place.`     et dixi a a a Domine Deus prophetae dicunt eis non videbitis gladium et famis non erit in vobis sed pacem veram dabit vobis in loco isto
 
14.    Then Yahweh said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name; I didn't send them, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I to them: they prophesy to you a lying vision, and divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.     Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.     ויאמר  יהוה  אלי 
שקר  הנבאים  נבאים
בשמי  לא  שלחתים
ולא  צויתים  ולא
דברתי  אליהם  חזון
שקר  וקסם  ואלול
ותרמות  לבם  המה
מתנבאים  לכם׃
    VY'aMUr YHVH 'aLY ShQUr HNB'aYM NB'aYM BShMY L'a ShLChThYM VL'a TShVYThYM VL'a DBUrThY 'aLYHM ChZVN ShQUr VQSM V'aLVL VThUrMVTh LBM HMH MThNB'aYM LKM.     And Jehovah saith unto me: Falsehood the prophets are prophesying in My name, I did not send them, nor command them, Nor have I spoken unto them: A false vision, and divination, and vanity, And the deceit of their own heart, they are prophesying to you.     et dixit Dominus ad me falso prophetae vaticinantur in nomine meo non misi eos et non praecepi eis neque locutus sum ad eos visionem mendacem et divinationem et fraudulentiam et seductionem cordis sui prophetant vobis
 
15.    Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, and I didn't send them, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land: By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.     Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.     לכן  כה־אמר  יהוה 
על־הנבאים  הנבאים
בשמי  ואני
לא־שלחתים  והמה
אמרים  חרב  ורעב  לא
יהיה  בארץ  הזאת
בחרב  וברעב  יתמו
הנבאים  ההמה׃
    LKN KH-'aMUr YHVH 'yL-HNB'aYM HNB'aYM BShMY V'aNY L'a-ShLChThYM VHMH 'aMUrYM ChUrB VUr'yB L'a YHYH B'aUrTSh HZ'aTh BChUrB VBUr'yB YThMV HNB'aYM HHMH.     Therefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, and I have not sent them, and they are saying, Sword and famine is not in this land: By sword and by famine are these prophets consumed.     ideo haec dicit Dominus de prophetis qui prophetant in nomine meo quos ego non misi dicentes gladius et famis non erit in terra hac in gladio et fame consumentur prophetae illi
 
16.    The people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them--them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness on them.     And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.     והעם  אשר־המה

משלכים  בחצות

והחרב  ואין  מקבר

ובניהם  ובנתיהם
ושפכתי  עליהם  את־
רעתם׃
    VH'yM 'aShUr-HMH NB'aYM LHM YHYV MShLKYM BChTShVTh YUrVShLM MPhNY HUr'yB VHChUrB V'aYN MQBUr LHMH HMH NShYHM VBNYHM VBNThYHM VShPhKThY 'yLYHM 'aTh- Ur'yThM.     And the people to whom they are prophesying, Are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, Because of the famine, and of the sword, And they have none burying them, Them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, And I have poured out upon them this evil.     et populi quibus prophetant erunt proiecti in viis Hierusalem prae fame et gladio et non erit qui sepeliat eos ipsi et uxores eorum filii et filiae eorum et effundam super eos malum suum
 
17.    You shall say this word to them, Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.     Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.     ואמרת  אליהם 
את־הדבר  הזה  תרדנה
עיני  דמעה  לילה
ויומם  ואל־  תדמינה
כי  שבר  גדול  נשברה
בתולת  בת־עמי  מכה
נחלה  מאד׃
    V'aMUrTh 'aLYHM 'aTh-HDBUr HZH ThUrDNH 'yYNY DM'yH LYLH VYVMM V'aL- ThDMYNH KY ShBUr GDVL NShBUrH BThVLTh BTh-'yMY MKH NChLH M'aD.     And thou hast said unto them this word: Tears come down mine eyes night and day, And they do not cease, For, with a great breach, Broken hath been the virgin daughter of my people, A very grievous stroke.     et dices ad eos verbum istud deducant oculi mei lacrimam per noctem et diem et non taceant quoniam contritione magna contrita est virgo filia populi mei plaga pessima vehementer
 
18.    If I go forth into the field, then, behold, the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then, behold, those who are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.     If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.     אם־יצאתי  השדה

    'aM-YTSh'aThY HShDH VHNH ChLLY-ChUrB V'aM B'aThY H'yYUr VHNH ThChLV'aY Ur'yB KY- GM-NBY'a GM-KHN SChUrV 'aL-'aUrTSh VL'a YD'yV.     If I have gone forth to the field, Then, lo, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, lo, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down Unto a land that they knew not.     si egressus fuero ad agros ecce occisi gladio et si introiero in civitatem ecce adtenuati fame propheta quoque et sacerdos abierunt in terram quam ignorabant
 
19.    Have you utterly rejected Judah? has your soul loathed Zion? why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!     Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!     המאס  מאסת

    HM'aS M'aSTh 'aTh-YHVDH 'aM-BTShYVN G'yLH NPhShK MDV'y HKYThNV V'aYN LNV MUrPh'a QVH LShLVM V'aYN TVB VL'yTh MUrPh'a VHNH B'yThH.     Hast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Zion hath Thy soul loathed? Wherefore hast Thou smitten us, And there is no healing to us? 20.    We acknowledge, Yahweh, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.     We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.     ידענו  יהוה  רשענו 
עון  אבותינו  כי

    YD'yNV YHVH UrSh'yNV 'yVN 'aBVThYNV KY ChT'aNV LK.     We have known, O Jehovah, our wickedness, The iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against Thee.     cognovimus Domine impietates nostras iniquitatem patrum nostrorum quia peccavimus tibi
 
21.    Do not abhor [us], for your name's sake; do not disgrace the throne of your glory: remember, don't break your covenant with us.     Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.     אל־תנאץ  למען  שמך 
אל־תנבל  כסא  כבודך
זכר  אל־תפר  בריתך
אתנו׃
    'aL-ThN'aTSh LM'yN ShMK 'aL-ThNBL KS'a KBVDK ZKUr 'aL-ThPhUr BUrYThK 'aThNV.     Do not despise, for Thy name`s sake, Dishonour not the throne of Thine honour, Remember, break not Thy covenant with us.     ne nos des in obprobrium propter nomen tuum neque facias nobis contumeliam solii gloriae tuae recordare ne irritum facias foedus tuum nobiscum
 
22.    Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the sky give showers? Aren't you he, Yahweh our God? therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.     Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.     היש  בהבלי  הגוים 
מגשמים  ואם־השמים
יתנו  רבבים  הלא
אתה־הוא  יהוה
אלהינו  ונקוה־לך
כי־אתה  עשית
את־כל־אלה׃
    HYSh BHBLY HGVYM MGShMYM V'aM-HShMYM YThNV UrBBYM HL'a 'aThH-HV'a YHVH 'aLHYNV VNQVH-LK KY-'aThH 'yShYTh 'aTh-KL-'aLH.     Are there among the vanities of the nations any causing rain? And do the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O Jehovah our God? And we wait for thee, for Thou -- Thou hast done all these!     numquid sunt in sculptilibus gentium qui pluant aut caeli possunt dare imbres nonne tu es Domine Deus noster quem expectavimus tu enim fecisti omnia haec
