| 2. | "Speak to the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers' house, of all their princes according to their fathers' houses, twelve rods: write every man's name on his rod. | Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod. |
דבר אל־בני ישראל וקח מאתם מטה מטה לבית אב מאת כל־נשיאהם לבית אבתם שנים עשר מטות איש את־שמו תכתב על־מטהו׃ |
DBUr 'aL-BNY YShUr'aL VQCh M'aThM MTH MTH LBYTh 'aB M'aTh KL-NShY'aHM LBYTh 'aBThM ShNYM 'yShUr MTVTh 'aYSh 'aTh-ShMV ThKThB 'yL-MTHV. | `Speak unto the sons of Israel, and take from them each a rod, for a father`s house, from all their princes, for the house of their fathers, twelve rods; the name of each thou dost write on his rod, | loquere ad filios Israhel et accipe ab eis virgas singulas per cognationes suas a cunctis principibus tribuum virgas duodecim et uniuscuiusque nomen superscribes virgae suae | |||||
| 3. | You shall write Aaron's name on the rod of Levi; for there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers' houses. | And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers. |
ואת שם אהרן תכתב על־מטה לוי כי מטה אחד לראש בית אבותם׃ |
V'aTh ShM 'aHUrN ThKThB 'yL-MTH LVY KY MTH 'aChD LUr'aSh BYTh 'aBVThM. | and Aaron`s name thou dost write on the tribe of Levi; for one rod is for the head of their fathers` house: | nomen autem Aaron erit in tribu Levi et una virga cunctas eorum familias continebit | |||||
| 4. | You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you. | And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you. |
והנחתם באהל מועד לפני העדות אשר אועד לכם שמה׃ |
VHNChThM B'aHL MV'yD LPhNY H'yDVTh 'aShUr 'aV'yD LKM ShMH. | and thou hast placed them in the tent of meeting, before the testimony, where I meet with you. | ponesque eas in tabernaculo foederis coram testimonio ubi loquar ad te | |||||
| 5. | It shall happen, that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you." | And it shall come to pass, that the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you. |
והיה האיש אשר אבחר־בו מטהו יפרח והשכתי מעלי את־תלנות בני ישראל אשר הם מלינם עליכם׃ |

| 7. | Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the tent of the testimony. | And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness. |
וינח משה את־המטת לפני יהוה באהל העדת׃ |
VYNCh MShH 'aTh-HMTTh LPhNY YHVH B'aHL H'yDTh. | and Moses placeth the rods before Jehovah, in the tent of the testimony. | quas cum posuisset Moses coram Domino in tabernaculo testimonii | |||||
| 8. | It happened on the next day, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds. | And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds. |
ויהי ממחרת ויבא משה אל־אהל העדות והנה פרח מטה־אהרן לבית לוי ויצא פרח ויצץ ציץ ויגמל שקדים׃ |
VYHY MMChUrTh VYB'a MShH 'aL-'aHL H'yDVTh VHNH PhUrCh MTH-'aHUrN LBYTh LVY VYTSh'a PhUrCh VYTShTSh TShYTSh VYGML ShQDYM. | And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that Moses goeth in unto the tent of the testimony, and lo, the rod of Aaron hath flourished for the house of Levi, and is bringing out flourishing, and doth blossom blossoms, and doth produce almonds; | sequenti die regressus invenit germinasse virgam Aaron in domo Levi et turgentibus gemmis eruperant flores qui foliis dilatatis in amigdalas deformati sunt | |||||
| 9. | Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. | And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. |
ויצא משה את־כל־המטת מלפני יהוה אל־כל־בני ישראל ויראו ויקחו איש מטהו׃ |
VYTSh'a MShH 'aTh-KL-HMTTh MLPhNY YHVH 'aL-KL-BNY YShUr'aL VYUr'aV VYQChV 'aYSh MTHV. | and Moses bringeth out all the rods from before Jehovah, unto all the sons of Israel, and they look, and take each his rod. | protulit ergo Moses omnes virgas de conspectu Domini ad cunctos filios Israhel videruntque et receperunt singuli virgas suas | |||||
| 10. | Yahweh said to Moses, "Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their murmurings against me, that they not die." | And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not. |
ויאמר יהוה אל־משה השב את־מטה אהרן לפני העדות למשמרת לאות לבני־מרי ותכל תלונתם מעלי ולא ימתו׃ |
VY'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MShH HShB 'aTh-MTH 'aHUrN LPhNY H'yDVTh LMShMUrTh L'aVTh LBNY-MUrY VThKL ThLVNThM M'yLY VL'a YMThV. | And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Put back the rod of Aaron, before the testimony, for a charge, for a sign to the sons of rebellion, and thou dost remove their murmurings from off me, and they do not die;` | dixitque Dominus ad Mosen refer virgam Aaron in tabernaculum testimonii ut servetur ibi in signum rebellium filiorum et quiescant querellae eorum a me ne moriantur | |||||
| 11. | Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did. | And Moses did so: as the LORD commanded him, so did he. |
ויעש משה כאשר צוה יהוה אתו כן עשה׃ |
VY'ySh MShH K'aShUr TShVH YHVH 'aThV KN 'yShH. | and Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded him; so he hath done. | fecitque Moses sicut praeceperat Dominus | |||||
| 12. | The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, "Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone! | And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish. |
ויאמרו בני ישראל אל־משה לאמר הן גוענו אבדנו כלנו אבדנו׃ |
VY'aMUrV BNY YShUr'aL 'aL-MShH L'aMUr HN GV'yNV 'aBDNV KLNV 'aBDNV. | And the sons of Israel speak unto Moses, saying, `Lo, we have expired; we have perished; we have all of us perished; | dixerunt autem filii Israhel ad Mosen ecce consumpti sumus omnes perivimus | |||||
| 13. | Everyone who comes near, who comes near to the tabernacle of Yahweh, dies! Will we all perish?" | Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the LORD shall die: shall we be consumed with dying? |
כל הקרב הקרב אל־משכן יהוה ימות האם תמנו לגוע׃ |
