1.    When Balaam saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel, he didn't go, as at the other times, to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.     And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.     וירא  בלעם  כי  טוב 
בעיני  יהוה  לברך
את־ישראל  ולא־הלך
כפעם־בפעם  לקראת
נחשים  וישת
אל־המדבר  פניו׃
    VYUr'a BL'yM KY TVB B'yYNY YHVH LBUrK 'aTh-YShUr'aL VL'a-HLK KPh'yM-BPh'yM LQUr'aTh NChShYM VYShTh 'aL-HMDBUr PhNYV.     And Balaam seeth that it is good in the eyes of Jehovah to bless Israel, and he hath not gone as time by time to meet enchantments, and he setteth towards the wilderness his face;     cumque vidisset Balaam quod placeret Domino ut benediceret Israheli nequaquam abiit ut ante perrexerat ut augurium quaereret sed dirigens contra desertum vultum suum
 
2.    Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came on him.     And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.     וישא  בלעם 
את־עיניו  וירא
את־ישראל  שכן
לשבטיו  ותהי  עליו
רוח  אלהים׃
    VYSh'a BL'yM 'aTh-'yYNYV VYUr'a 'aTh-YShUr'aL ShKN LShBTYV VThHY 'yLYV UrVCh 'aLHYM.     and Balaam lifteth up his eyes, and seeth Israel tabernacling, by its tribes, and the Spirit of God is upon him,     et elevans oculos vidit Israhel in tentoriis commorantem per tribus suas et inruente in se spiritu Dei
 
3.    He took up his parable, and said, "Balaam the son of Beor says, the man whose eye was closed says;     And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:     וישא  משלו  ויאמר 
נאם  בלעם  בנו  בער
ונאם  הגבר  שתם
העין׃
    VYSh'a MShLV VY'aMUr N'aM BL'yM BNV B'yUr VN'aM HGBUr ShThM H'yYN.     and he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes are shut --     adsumpta parabola ait dixit Balaam filius Beor dixit homo cuius obturatus est oculus
 
4.    he says, who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, and having his eyes open:     He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:     נאם  שמע  אמרי־אל 
אשר  מחזה  שדי  יחזה
נפל  וגלוי  עינים׃
    N'aM ShM'y 'aMUrY-'aL 'aShUr MChZH ShDY YChZH NPhL VGLVY 'yYNYM.     An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- Who a vision of the Almighty seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:     dixit auditor sermonum Dei qui visionem Omnipotentis intuitus est qui cadit et sic aperiuntur oculi eius
 
5.    How goodly are your tents, Jacob, and your tents, Israel!     How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!     מה־טבו  אהליך  יעקב 
משכנתיך  ישראל׃
    MH-TBV 'aHLYK Y'yQB MShKNThYK YShUr'aL.     How good have been thy tents, O Jacob, Thy tabernacles, O Israel;     quam pulchra tabernacula tua Iacob et tentoria tua Israhel
 
6.    As valleys they are spread forth, as gardens by the riverside, as aloes which Yahweh has planted, as cedar trees beside the waters.     As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.     כנחלים  נטיו  כגנת 
עלי  נהר  כאהלים
נטע  יהוה  כארזים
עלי־מים׃
    KNChLYM NTYV KGNTh 'yLY NHUr K'aHLYM NT'y YHVH K'aUrZYM 'yLY-MYM.     As valleys they have been stretched out, As gardens by a river; As aloes Jehovah hath planted, As cedars by waters;     ut valles nemorosae ut horti iuxta fluvios inrigui ut tabernacula quae fixit Dominus quasi cedri propter aquas
 
7.    Water shall flow from his buckets. His seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag. His kingdom shall be exalted.     He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.     יזל־מים  מדליו 
וזרעו  במים  רבים
וירם  מאגג  מלכו
ותנשא  מלכתו׃
    YZL-MYM MDLYV VZUr'yV BMYM UrBYM VYUrM M'aGG MLKV VThNSh'a MLKThV.     He maketh water flow from his buckets, And his seed is in many waters; And higher than Agag is his king, And exalted is his kingdom.     fluet aqua de situla eius et semen illius erit in aquas multas tolletur propter Agag rex eius et auferetur regnum illius
 
8.    God brings him out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox. He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.     God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.     אל  מוציאו  ממצרים 
כתועפת  ראם  לו
יאכל  גוים  צריו
ועצמתיהם  יגרם
וחציו  ימחץ׃
    'aL MVTShY'aV MMTShUrYM KThV'yPhTh Ur'aM LV Y'aKL GVYM TShUrYV V'yTShMThYHM YGUrM VChTShYV YMChTSh.     God is bringing him out of Egypt; As the swiftness of a Reem is to him, He eateth up nations his adversaries, And their bones he breaketh, And with his arrows he smiteth,     Deus eduxit illum de Aegypto cuius fortitudo similis est rinocerotis devorabunt gentes hostes illius ossaque eorum confringent et perforabunt sagittis
 
9.    He couched, he lay down as a lion, as a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Everyone who blesses you is blessed. Everyone who curses you is cursed."     He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.     כרע  שכב  כארי 
וכלביא  מי  יקימנו
מברכיך  ברוך
וארריך  ארור׃
    KUr'y ShKB K'aUrY VKLBY'a MY YQYMNV MBUrKYK BUrVK V'aUrUrYK 'aUrVUr.     He hath bent, he hath lain down as a lion, And as a lioness: who doth raise him up? He who is blessing thee is blessed, And he who is cursing thee is cursed.`     accubans dormivit ut leo et quasi leaena quam suscitare nullus audebit qui benedixerit tibi erit ipse benedictus qui maledixerit in maledictione reputabitur
 
10.    Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times.     And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.     ויחר־אף  בלק 
אל־בלעם  ויספק
את־כפיו  ויאמר  בלק
אל־בלעם  לקב  איבי
קראתיך  והנה  ברכת
ברך  זה  שלש  פעמים׃
    VYChUr-'aPh BLQ 'aL-BL'yM VYSPhQ 'aTh-KPhYV VY'aMUr BLQ 'aL-BL'yM LQB 'aYBY QUr'aThYK VHNH BUrKTh BUrK ZH ShLSh Ph'yMYM.     And the anger of Balak burneth against Balaam, and he striketh his hands; and Balak saith unto Balaam, `To pierce mine enemies I called thee, and lo, thou hast certainly blessed -- these three times;     iratusque Balac contra Balaam conplosis manibus ait ad maledicendum inimicis meis vocavi te quibus e contrario tertio benedixisti
 
11.    Therefore now flee you to your place! I thought to promote you to great honor; but, behold, Yahweh has kept you back from honor."     Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.     ועתה  ברח־לך 
אל־מקומך  אמרתי
כבד  אכבדך  והנה
מנעך  יהוה  מכבוד׃
    V'yThH BUrCh-LK 'aL-MQVMK 'aMUrThY KBD 'aKBDK VHNH MN'yK YHVH MKBVD.     and now, flee for thyself unto thy place; I have said, I do greatly honour thee, and lo, Jehovah hath kept thee back from honour.`     revertere ad locum tuum decreveram quidem magnifice honorare te sed Dominus privavit te honore disposito
 
12.    Balaam said to Balak, "Didn't I also tell your messengers who you sent to me, saying,     And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,     ויאמר  בלעם  אל־בלק 
הלא  גם  אל־מלאכיך
אשר־שלחת  אלי
דברתי  לאמר׃
    VY'aMUr BL'yM 'aL-BLQ HL'a GM 'aL-ML'aKYK 'aShUr-ShLChTh 'aLY DBUrThY L'aMUr.     And Balaam saith unto Balak, `Did I not also unto thy messengers whom thou hast sent unto me, speak, saying,     respondit Balaam ad Balac nonne nuntiis tuis quos misisti ad me dixi
 
13.    'If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can't go beyond the word of Yahweh, to do either good or bad of my own mind. I will say what Yahweh says'?     If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?     אם־יתן־לי  בלק  מלא 
ביתו  כסף  וזהב  לא
אוכל  לעבר  את־פי
יהוה  לעשות  טובה
או  רעה  מלבי
אשר־ידבר  יהוה  אתו
אדבר׃
    'aM-YThN-LY BLQ ML'a BYThV KSPh VZHB L'a 'aVKL L'yBUr 'aTh-PhY YHVH L'yShVTh TVBH 'aV Ur'yH MLBY 'aShUr-YDBUr YHVH 'aThV 'aDBUr.     If Balak doth give to me the fulness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of Jehovah, to do good or evil of mine own heart -- that which Jehovah speaketh -- it I speak?     si dederit mihi Balac plenam domum suam argenti et auri non potero praeterire sermonem Domini Dei mei ut vel boni quid vel mali proferam ex corde meo sed quicquid Dominus dixerit hoc loquar
 
14.    Now, behold, I go to my people: come, [and] I will inform you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days."     And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.     ועתה  הנני  הולך 
לעמי  לכה  איעצך
אשר  יעשה  העם  הזה
לעמך  באחרית
הימים׃
    V'yThH HNNY HVLK L'yMY LKH 'aY'yTShK 'aShUr Y'yShH H'yM HZH L'yMK B'aChUrYTh HYMYM.     and, now, lo, I am going to my people; come, I counsel thee concerning that which this people doth to thy people, in the latter end of the days.`     verumtamen pergens ad populum meum dabo consilium quid populus tuus huic populo faciat extremo tempore
 
15.    He took up his parable, and said, "Balaam the son of Beor says, the man whose eye was closed says;     And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:     וישא  משלו  ויאמר 
נאם  בלעם  בנו  בער
ונאם  הגבר  שתם
העין׃

16.    he says, who hears the words of God, knows the knowledge of the Most High, and who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, and having his eyes open:     He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:     נאם  שמע  אמרי־אל 
וידע  דעת  עליון
מחזה  שדי  יחזה  נפל
וגלוי  עינים׃
    N'aM ShM'y 'aMUrY-'aL VYD'y D'yTh 'yLYVN MChZH ShDY YChZH NPhL VGLVY 'yYNYM.     An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- And knowing knowledge of the Most High; A vision of the Almighty he seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:     dixit auditor sermonum Dei qui novit doctrinam Altissimi et visiones Omnipotentis videt qui cadens apertos habet oculos
 
17.    I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Sheth.     I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.     אראנו  ולא  עתה 
אשורנו  ולא  קרוב
דרך  כוכב  מיעקב
וקם  שבט  מישראל
ומחץ  פאתי  מואב
וקרקר  כל־בני־שת׃
    'aUr'aNV VL'a 'yThH 'aShVUrNV VL'a QUrVB DUrK KVKB MY'yQB VQM ShBT MYShUr'aL VMChTSh Ph'aThY MV'aB VQUrQUr KL-BNY-ShTh.     I see it, but not now; I behold it, but not near; A star hath proceeded from Jacob, And a sceptre hath risen from Israel, And hath smitten corners of Moab, And hath destroyed all sons of Sheth.     videbo eum sed non modo intuebor illum sed non prope orietur stella ex Iacob et consurget virga de Israhel et percutiet duces Moab vastabitque omnes filios Seth
 
18.    Edom shall be a possession. Seir, his enemies, also shall be a possession, while Israel does valiantly.     And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.     והיה  אדום  ירשה 
והיה  ירשה  שעיר
איביו  וישראל  עשה
חיל׃
    VHYH 'aDVM YUrShH VHYH YUrShH Sh'yYUr 'aYBYV VYShUr'aL 'yShH ChYL.     And Edom hath been a possession, And Seir hath been a possession, for its enemies, And Israel is doing valiantly;     et erit Idumea possessio eius hereditas Seir cedet inimicis suis Israhel vero fortiter aget
 
19.    Out of Jacob shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city."     Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.     וירד  מיעקב  והאביד 
שריד  מעיר׃
    VYUrD MY'yQB VH'aBYD ShUrYD M'yYUr.     And one doth rule out of Jacob, And hath destroyed a remnant from Ar.`     de Iacob erit qui dominetur et perdat reliquias civitatis
 
20.    He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, "Amalek was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction."     And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.     וירא  את־עמלק  וישא 
משלו  ויאמר  ראשית
גוים  עמלק  ואחריתו
עדי  אבד׃
    VYUr'a 'aTh-'yMLQ VYSh'a MShLV VY'aMUr Ur'aShYTh GVYM 'yMLQ V'aChUrYThV 'yDY 'aBD.     And he seeth Amalek, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `A beginning of the Goyim is Amalek; And his latter end -- for ever he perisheth.`     cumque vidisset Amalech adsumens parabolam ait principium gentium Amalech cuius extrema perdentur
 
21.    He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, "Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.     And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.     וירא  את־הקיני 
וישא  משלו  ויאמר
איתן  מושבך  ושים
בסלע  קנך׃
    VYUr'a 'aTh-HQYNY VYSh'a MShLV VY'aMUr 'aYThN MVShBK VShYM BSL'y QNK.     And he seeth the Kenite, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `Enduring is thy dwelling, And setting in a rock thy nest,     vidit quoque Cineum et adsumpta parabola ait robustum est quidem habitaculum tuum sed si in petra posueris nidum tuum
 
22.    Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive."     Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.     כי  אם־יהיה  לבער 
קין  עד־מה  אשור
תשבך׃
    KY 'aM-YHYH LB'yUr QYN 'yD-MH 'aShVUr ThShBK.     But the Kenite is for a burning; Till when doth Asshur keep thee captive?`     et fueris electus de stirpe Cain quamdiu poteris permanere Assur enim capiet te
 
23.    He took up his parable, and said, "Alas, who shall live when God does this?     And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!     וישא  משלו  ויאמר 
אוי  מי  יחיה  משמו
אל׃
    VYSh'a MShLV VY'aMUr 'aVY MY YChYH MShMV 'aL.     And he taketh up his simile, and saith: `Alas! who doth live when God doth this?     adsumptaque parabola iterum locutus est heu quis victurus est quando ista faciet Deus
 
24.    But ships [shall come] from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber. He also shall come to destruction."     And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.     וצים  מיד  כתים 
וענו  אשור
וענו־עבר  וגם־הוא
עדי  אבד׃
    VTShYM MYD KThYM V'yNV 'aShVUr V'yNV-'yBUr VGM-HV'a 'yDY 'aBD.     And -- ships are from the side of Chittim, And they have humbled Asshur, And they have humbled Eber, And it also for ever is perishing.`     venient in trieribus de Italia superabunt Assyrios vastabuntque Hebraeos et ad extremum etiam ipsi peribunt
 
25.    Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.     And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.     ויקם  בלעם  וילך 
וישב  למקמו
וגם־בלק  הלך
לדרכו׃
    VYQM BL'yM VYLK VYShB LMQMV VGM-BLQ HLK LDUrKV.     And Balaam riseth, and goeth, and turneth back to his place, and Balak also hath gone on his way.     surrexitque Balaam et reversus est in locum suum Balac quoque via qua venerat rediit
