1.    Samuel said to Saul, "Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of Yahweh.     Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.     ויאמר  שמואל 
אל־שאול  אתי  שלח
יהוה  למשחך  למלך
על־עמו  על־ישראל
ועתה  שמע  לקול
דברי  יהוה׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL 'aL-Sh'aVL 'aThY ShLCh YHVH LMShChK LMLK 'yL-'yMV 'yL-YShUr'aL V'yThH ShM'y LQVL DBUrY YHVH.     And Samuel saith unto Saul, `Me did Jehovah send to anoint thee for king over His people, over Israel; and now, hearken to the voice of the words of Jehovah:     et dixit Samuhel ad Saul me misit Dominus ut unguerem te in regem super populum eius Israhel nunc ergo audi vocem Domini
 
2.    Thus says Yahweh of Armies, 'I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.     Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.     כה  אמר  יהוה  צבאות 
פקדתי  את  אשר־עשה
עמלק  לישראל
אשר־שם  לו  בדרך
בעלתו  ממצרים׃
    KH 'aMUr YHVH TShB'aVTh PhQDThY 'aTh 'aShUr-'yShH 'yMLQ LYShUr'aL 'aShUr-ShM LV BDUrK B'yLThV MMTShUrYM.     `Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, I have looked after that which Amalek did to Israel, that which he laid for him in the way in his going up out of Egypt.     haec dicit Dominus exercituum recensui quaecumque fecit Amalech Israheli quomodo restitit ei in via cum ascenderet de Aegypto
 
3.    Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don't spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"     Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.     עתה  לך  והכיתה

    'yThH LK VHKYThH 'aTh-'yMLQ VHChUrMThM 'aTh-KL-'aShUr-LV VL'a ThChML 'yLYV VHMThH M'aYSh 'yD-'aShH M'yLL V'yD-YVNQ MShVUr V'yD-ShH MGML V'yD-ChMVUr.     Now, go, and thou hast smitten Amalek, and devoted all that it hath, and thou hast no pity on it, and hast put to death from man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, from camel unto ass.`     nunc igitur vade et percute Amalech et demolire universa eius non parcas ei sed interfice a viro usque ad mulierem et parvulum atque lactantem bovem et ovem camelum et asinum
 
4.    Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.     And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.     וישמע  שאול  את־העם 
ויפקדם  בטלאים
מאתים  אלף  רגלי
ועשרת  אלפים  את־
איש  יהודה׃
    VYShM'y Sh'aVL 'aTh-H'yM VYPhQDM BTL'aYM M'aThYM 'aLPh UrGLY V'yShUrTh 'aLPhYM 'aTh- 'aYSh YHVDH.     And Saul summoneth the people, and inspecteth them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand are men of Judah.     praecepit itaque Saul populo et recensuit eos quasi agnos ducenta milia peditum et decem milia virorum Iuda
 
5.    Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.     And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.     ויבא  שאול  עד־עיר 
עמלק  וירב  בנחל׃
    VYB'a Sh'aVL 'yD-'yYUr 'yMLQ VYUrB BNChL.     And Saul cometh in unto a city of Amalek, and layeth wait in a valley;     cumque venisset Saul usque ad civitatem Amalech tetendit insidias in torrente
 
6.    Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.     And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.     ויאמר  שאול 
אל־הקיני  לכו  סרו
רדו  מתוך  עמלקי
פן־אספך  עמו  ואתה
עשיתה  חסד
עם־כל־בני  ישראל
בעלותם  ממצרים
ויסר  קיני  מתוך
עמלק׃
    VY'aMUr Sh'aVL 'aL-HQYNY LKV SUrV UrDV MThVK 'yMLQY PhN-'aSPhK 'yMV V'aThH 'yShYThH ChSD 'yM-KL-BNY YShUr'aL B'yLVThM MMTShUrYM VYSUr QYNY MThVK 'yMLQ.     and Saul saith unto the Kenite, `Go, turn aside, go down from the midst of Amalek, lest I consume thee with it, and thou didst kindness with all the sons of Israel, in their going up out of Egypt;` and the Kenite turneth aside from the midst of Amalek.     dixitque Saul Cineo abite recedite atque descendite ab Amalech ne forte involvam te cum eo tu enim fecisti misericordiam cum omnibus filiis Israhel cum ascenderent de Aegypto et recessit Cineus de medio Amalech
 
7.    Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.     And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.     ויך  שאול  את־עמלק 
מחוילה  בואך  שור
אשר  על־פני  מצרים׃
    VYK Sh'aVL 'aTh-'yMLQ MChVYLH BV'aK ShVUr 'aShUr 'yL-PhNY MTShUrYM.     And Saul smiteth Amalek from Havilah -- thy going in to Shur, which is on the front of Egypt,     percussitque Saul Amalech ab Evila donec venias Sur quae est e regione Aegypti
 
8.    He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.     And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.     ויתפש  את־אגג

    VYThPhSh 'aTh-'aGG MLK-'yMLQ ChY V'aTh-KL-H'yM HChUrYM LPhY-ChUrB.     and he catcheth Agag king of Amalek alive, and all the people he hath devoted by the mouth of the sword;     et adprehendit Agag regem Amalech vivum omne autem vulgus interfecit in ore gladii
 
9.    But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the cattle, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn't utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.     But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.     ויחמל  שאול  והעם

וכל־המלאכה  נמבזה
ונמס  אתה  החרימו׃
    VYChML Sh'aVL VH'yM 'yL-'aGG V'yL-MYTB HTSh'aN VHBQUr VHMShNYM V'yL-HKUrYM V'yL-KL-HTVB VL'a 'aBV HChUrYMM VKL-HML'aKH NMBZH VNMS 'aThH HChUrYMV.     and Saul hath pity -- also the people -- on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that is good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted -- it they devoted.     et pepercit Saul et populus Agag et optimis gregibus ovium et armentorum et vestibus et arietibus et universis quae pulchra erant nec voluerunt disperdere ea quicquid vero vile fuit et reprobum hoc demoliti sunt
 
10.    Then the word of Yahweh came to Samuel, saying,     Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,     ויהי  דבר־יהוה 
אל־שמואל  לאמר׃
    VYHY DBUr-YHVH 'aL-ShMV'aL L'aMUr.     And the word of Jehovah is unto Samuel, saying,     factum est autem verbum Domini ad Samuhel dicens
 
11.    "It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments." Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.     It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.     נחמתי  כי־המלכתי 
את־שאול  למלך
כי־שב  מאחרי
ואת־דברי  לא  הקים
ויחר  לשמואל  ויזעק
אל־יהוה  כל־הלילה׃
    NChMThY KY-HMLKThY 'aTh-Sh'aVL LMLK KY-ShB M'aChUrY V'aTh-DBUrY L'a HQYM VYChUr LShMV'aL VYZ'yQ 'aL-YHVH KL-HLYLH.     `I have repented that I caused Saul to reign for king, for he hath turned back from after Me, and My words he hath not performed;` and it is displeasing to Samuel, and he crieth unto Jehovah all the night.     paenitet me quod constituerim Saul regem quia dereliquit me et verba mea opere non implevit contristatusque est Samuhel et clamavit ad Dominum tota nocte
 
12.    Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, "Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal."     And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.     וישכם  שמואל  לקראת 
שאול  בבקר  ויגד
לשמואל  לאמר
בא־שאול  הכרמלה
והנה  מציב  לו  יד
ויסב  ויעבר  וירד
הגלגל׃
    VYShKM ShMV'aL LQUr'aTh Sh'aVL BBQUr VYGD LShMV'aL L'aMUr B'a-Sh'aVL HKUrMLH VHNH MTShYB LV YD VYSB VY'yBUr VYUrD HGLGL.     And Samuel riseth early to meet Saul in the morning, and it is declared to Samuel, saying, `Saul hath come in to Carmel, and lo, he is setting up to himself a monument, and goeth round, and passeth over, and goeth down to Gilgal.`     cumque de nocte surrexisset Samuhel ut iret ad Saul mane nuntiatum est Samuheli eo quod venisset Saul in Carmelum et erexisset sibi fornicem triumphalem et reversus transisset descendissetque in Galgala venit ergo Samuhel ad Saul et
 
13.    Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, "You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh."     And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.     ויבא  שמואל 
אל־שאול  ויאמר  לו
שאול  ברוך  אתה
ליהוה  הקימתי  את־
דבר  יהוה׃
    VYB'a ShMV'aL 'aL-Sh'aVL VY'aMUr LV Sh'aVL BUrVK 'aThH LYHVH HQYMThY 'aTh- DBUr YHVH.     And Samuel cometh in unto Saul, and Saul saith to him, `Blessed art thou of Jehovah; I have performed the word of Jehovah.`     dixit ei Saul benedictus tu Domino implevi verbum Domini
 
14.    Samuel said, "Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?"     And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?     ויאמר  שמואל  ומה 
קול־הצאן  הזה
באזני  וקול  הבקר
אשר  אנכי  שמע׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL VMH QVL-HTSh'aN HZH B'aZNY VQVL HBQUr 'aShUr 'aNKY ShM'y.     And Samuel saith, `And what is the noise of this flock in mine ears -- and the noise of the herd which I am hearing?`     dixitque Samuhel et quae est haec vox gregum quae resonat in auribus meis et armentorum quam ego audio
 
15.    Saul said, "They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest."     And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.     ויאמר  שאול  מעמלקי 
הביאום  אשר  חמל
העם  על־מיטב  הצאן
והבקר  למען  זבח
ליהוה  אלהיך
ואת־היותר  החרמנו׃
    VY'aMUr Sh'aVL M'yMLQY HBY'aVM 'aShUr ChML H'yM 'yL-MYTB HTSh'aN VHBQUr LM'yN ZBCh LYHVH 'aLHYK V'aTh-HYVThUr HChUrMNV.     And Saul saith, `From Amalek they have brought them, because the people had pity on the best of the flock, and of the herd, in order to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God, and the remnant we have devoted.`     et ait Saul de Amalech adduxerunt ea pepercit enim populus melioribus ovibus et armentis ut immolarentur Domino Deo tuo reliqua vero occidimus
 
16.    Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh has said to me last night." He said to him, "Say on."     Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.     ויאמר  שמואל 
אל־שאול  הרף
ואגידה  לך  את  אשר
דבר  יהוה  אלי
הלילה  ויאמרו  לו
דבר׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL 'aL-Sh'aVL HUrPh V'aGYDH LK 'aTh 'aShUr DBUr YHVH 'aLY HLYLH VY'aMUrV LV DBUr.     And Samuel saith unto Saul, `Desist, and I declare to thee that which Jehovah hath spoken unto me to-night;` and he saith to him, `Speak.`     dixit autem Samuhel ad Saul sine me et indicabo tibi quae locutus sit Dominus ad me nocte dixitque ei loquere
 
17.    Samuel said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren't you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;     And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?     ויאמר  שמואל  הלוא 
אם־קטן  אתה  בעיניך
ראש  שבטי  ישראל
אתה  וימשחך  יהוה
למלך  על־ישראל׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL HLV'a 'aM-QTN 'aThH B'yYNYK Ur'aSh ShBTY YShUr'aL 'aThH VYMShChK YHVH LMLK 'yL-YShUr'aL.     And Samuel saith, `Art not thou, if thou art little in thine own eyes, head of the tribes of Israel? and Jehovah doth anoint thee for king over Israel,     et ait Samuhel nonne cum parvulus esses in oculis tuis caput in tribubus Israhel factus es unxitque te Dominus regem super Israhel
 
18.    and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, 'Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.'     And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.     וישלחך  יהוה  בדרך 
ויאמר  לך  והחרמתה
את־החטאים  את־עמלק
ונלחמת  בו  עד
כלותם  אתם׃
    VYShLChK YHVH BDUrK VY'aMUr LK VHChUrMThH 'aTh-HChT'aYM 'aTh-'yMLQ VNLChMTh BV 'yD KLVThM 'aThM.     and Jehovah sendeth thee in the way, and saith, Go, and thou hast devoted the sinners, the Amalekite, and fought against them till they are consumed;     et misit te Dominus in via et ait vade et interfice peccatores Amalech et pugnabis contra eos usque ad internicionem eorum
 
19.    Why then didn't you obey the voice of Yahweh, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh?"     Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?     ולמה  לא־שמעת  בקול 
יהוה  ותעט  אל־השלל
ותעש  הרע  בעיני
יהוה׃
    VLMH L'a-ShM'yTh BQVL YHVH VTh'yT 'aL-HShLL VTh'ySh HUr'y B'yYNY YHVH.     and why hast thou not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah -- and dost fly unto the spoil, and dost do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah?`     quare ergo non audisti vocem Domini sed versus ad praedam es et fecisti malum in oculis Domini
 
20.    Saul said to Samuel, "But I have obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.     And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.     ויאמר  שאול 
אל־שמואל  אשר
שמעתי  בקול  יהוה
ואלך  בדרך
אשר־שלחני  יהוה
ואביא  את־אגג  מלך
עמלק  ואת־עמלק
החרמתי׃
    VY'aMUr Sh'aVL 'aL-ShMV'aL 'aShUr ShM'yThY BQVL YHVH V'aLK BDUrK 'aShUr-ShLChNY YHVH V'aBY'a 'aTh-'aGG MLK 'yMLQ V'aTh-'yMLQ HChUrMThY.     And Saul saith unto Samuel, `Because -- I have hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and I go in the way which Jehovah hath sent me, and bring in Agag king of Amalek, and Amalek I have devoted;     et ait Saul ad Samuhelem immo audivi vocem Domini et ambulavi in via per quam misit me Dominus et adduxi Agag regem Amalech et Amalech interfeci
 
21.    But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal."     But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.     ויקח  העם  מהשלל 
צאן  ובקר  ראשית
החרם  לזבח  ליהוה
אלהיך  בגלגל׃
    VYQCh H'yM MHShLL TSh'aN VBQUr Ur'aShYTh HChUrM LZBCh LYHVH 'aLHYK BGLGL.     and the people taketh of the spoil of the flock and herd, the first part of the devoted thing, for sacrifice to Jehovah thy God in Gilgal.`     tulit autem populus de praeda oves et boves primitias eorum quae caesa sunt ut immolet Domino Deo suo in Galgalis
 
22.    Samuel said, "Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.     And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.     ויאמר  שמואל  החפץ 
ליהוה  בעלות
וזבחים  כשמע  בקול
יהוה  הנה  שמע  מזבח
טוב  להקשיב  מחלב
אילים׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL HChPhTSh LYHVH B'yLVTh VZBChYM KShM'y BQVL YHVH HNH ShM'y MZBCh TVB LHQShYB MChLB 'aYLYM.     And Samuel saith, `Hath Jehovah had delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices as in hearkening to the voice of Jehovah? lo, hearkening than sacrifice is better; to give attention than fat of rams;     et ait Samuhel numquid vult Dominus holocausta aut victimas et non potius ut oboediatur voci Domini melior est enim oboedientia quam victimae et auscultare magis quam offerre adipem arietum
 
23.    For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, he has also rejected you from being king."     For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.     כי  חטאת־קסם  מרי 
ואון  ותרפים  הפצר
יען  מאסת  את־דבר
יהוה  וימאסך  ממלך׃
    KY ChT'aTh-QSM MUrY V'aVN VThUrPhYM HPhTShUr Y'yN M'aSTh 'aTh-DBUr YHVH VYM'aSK MMLK.     for a sin of divination is rebellion, and iniquity and teraphim is stubbornness; because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He also doth reject thee from being king.`     quoniam quasi peccatum ariolandi est repugnare et quasi scelus idolatriae nolle adquiescere pro eo ergo quod abiecisti sermonem Domini abiecit te ne sis rex
 
24.    Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.     And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.     ויאמר  שאול 
אל־שמואל  חטאתי
כי־עברתי
את־פי־יהוה
ואת־דבריך  כי
יראתי  את־העם
ואשמע  בקולם׃
    VY'aMUr Sh'aVL 'aL-ShMV'aL ChT'aThY KY-'yBUrThY 'aTh-PhY-YHVH V'aTh-DBUrYK KY YUr'aThY 'aTh-H'yM V'aShM'y BQVLM.     And Saul saith unto Samuel, `I have sinned, for I passed over the command of Jehovah, and thy words; because I have feared the people, I also hearken to their voice;     dixitque Saul ad Samuhel peccavi quia praevaricatus sum sermonem Domini et verba tua timens populum et oboediens voci eorum
 
25.    Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh."     Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.     ועתה  שא  נא 
את־חטאתי  ושוב  עמי
ואשתחוה  ליהוה׃
    V'yThH Sh'a N'a 'aTh-ChT'aThY VShVB 'yMY V'aShThChVH LYHVH.     and now, bear, I pray thee, with my sin, and turn back with me, and I bow myself to Jehovah.`     sed nunc porta quaeso peccatum meum et revertere mecum ut adorem Dominum
 
26.    Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel."     And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.     ויאמר  שמואל 
אל־שאול  לא  אשוב
עמך  כי  מאסתה
את־דבר  יהוה
וימאסך  יהוה  מהיות
מלך  על־ישראל׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL 'aL-Sh'aVL L'a 'aShVB 'yMK KY M'aSThH 'aTh-DBUr YHVH VYM'aSK YHVH MHYVTh MLK 'yL-YShUr'aL.     And Samuel saith unto Saul, `I do not turn back with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth reject thee from being king over Israel.`     et ait Samuhel ad Saul non revertar tecum quia proiecisti sermonem Domini et proiecit te Dominus ne sis rex super Israhel
 
27.    As Samuel turned about to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.     And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.     ויסב  שמואל  ללכת 
ויחזק  בכנף־מעילו
ויקרע׃
    VYSB ShMV'aL LLKTh VYChZQ BKNPh-M'yYLV VYQUr'y.     And Samuel turneth round to go, and he layeth hold on the skirt of his upper robe -- and it is rent!     et conversus est Samuhel ut abiret ille autem adprehendit summitatem pallii eius quae et scissa est
 
28.    Samuel said to him, "Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.     And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.     ויאמר  אליו  שמואל 
קרע  יהוה
את־ממלכות  ישראל
מעליך  היום  ונתנה
לרעך  הטוב  ממך׃
    VY'aMUr 'aLYV ShMV'aL QUr'y YHVH 'aTh-MMLKVTh YShUr'aL M'yLYK HYVM VNThNH LUr'yK HTVB MMK.     And Samuel saith unto him, `Jehovah hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee to-day, and given it to thy neighbour who is better than thou;     et ait ad eum Samuhel scidit Dominus regnum Israhel a te hodie et tradidit illud proximo tuo meliori te
 
29.    Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent."     And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.     וגם  נצח  ישראל  לא 
ישקר  ולא  ינחם  כי
לא  אדם  הוא  להנחם׃
    VGM NTShCh YShUr'aL L'a YShQUr VL'a YNChM KY L'a 'aDM HV'a LHNChM.     and also, the Pre-eminence of Israel doth not lie nor repent, for He is not a man to be penitent.`     porro Triumphator in Israhel non parcet et paenitudine non flectetur neque enim homo est ut agat paenitentiam
 
30.    Then he said, "I have sinned: yet honor me now, please, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God."     Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.     ויאמר  חטאתי  עתה 
כבדני  נא  נגד
זקני־עמי  ונגד
ישראל  ושוב  עמי
והשתחויתי  ליהוה
אלהיך׃
    VY'aMUr ChT'aThY 'yThH KBDNY N'a NGD ZQNY-'yMY VNGD YShUr'aL VShVB 'yMY VHShThChVYThY LYHVH 'aLHYK.     And he saith, `I have sinned; now, honour me, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn back with me; and I have bowed myself to Jehovah thy God.`     at ille ait peccavi sed nunc honora me coram senibus populi mei et coram Israhel et revertere mecum ut adorem Dominum Deum tuum
 
31.    So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.     So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.     וישב  שמואל  אחרי 
שאול  וישתחו  שאול
ליהוה׃
    VYShB ShMV'aL 'aChUrY Sh'aVL VYShThChV Sh'aVL LYHVH.     And Samuel turneth back after Saul, and Saul boweth himself to Jehovah;     reversus ergo Samuhel secutus est Saulem et adoravit Saul Dominum
 
32.    Then said Samuel, "Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites!" Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, "Surely the bitterness of death is past."     Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.     ויאמר  שמואל  הגישו 
אלי  את־אגג  מלך
עמלק  וילך  אליו
אגג  מעדנת  ויאמר
אגג  אכן  סר
מר־המות׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL HGYShV 'aLY 'aTh-'aGG MLK 'yMLQ VYLK 'aLYV 'aGG M'yDNTh VY'aMUr 'aGG 'aKN SUr MUr-HMVTh.     and Samuel saith, `Bring ye nigh unto me Agag king of Amalek,` and Agag cometh unto him daintily, and Agag saith, `Surely the bitterness of death hath turned aside.`     dixitque Samuhel adducite ad me Agag regem Amalech et oblatus est ei Agag pinguissimus et dixit Agag sicine separat amara mors
 
33.    Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!" Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.     And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.     ויאמר  שמואל  כאשר 
שכלה  נשים  חרבך
כן־תשכל  מנשים  אמך
וישסף  שמואל
את־אגג  לפני  יהוה
בגלגל׃
    VY'aMUr ShMV'aL K'aShUr ShKLH NShYM ChUrBK KN-ThShKL MNShYM 'aMK VYShSPh ShMV'aL 'aTh-'aGG LPhNY YHVH BGLGL.     And Samuel saith, `As thy sword bereaved women -- so is thy mother bereaved above women;` and Samuel heweth Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.     et ait Samuhel sicut fecit absque liberis mulieres gladius tuus sic absque liberis erit inter mulieres mater tua et in frusta concidit Samuhel Agag coram Domino in Galgalis
 
34.    Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.     Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.     וילך  שמואל  הרמתה 
ושאול  עלה  אל־ביתו
גבעת  שאול׃
    VYLK ShMV'aL HUrMThH VSh'aVL 'yLH 'aL-BYThV GB'yTh Sh'aVL.     And Samuel goeth to Ramath, and Saul hath gone unto his house -- to Gibeah of Saul.     abiit autem Samuhel in Ramatha Saul vero ascendit in domum suam in Gabaath
 
35.    Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.     And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.     ולא־יסף  שמואל 
לראות  את־שאול
עד־יום  מותו
כי־התאבל  שמואל
אל־  שאול  ויהוה
נחם  כי־המליך
את־שאול  על־ישראל׃
    VL'a-YSPh ShMV'aL LUr'aVTh 'aTh-Sh'aVL 'yD-YVM MVThV KY-HTh'aBL ShMV'aL 'aL- Sh'aVL VYHVH NChM KY-HMLYK 'aTh-Sh'aVL 'yL-YShUr'aL.     And Samuel hath not added to see Saul till the day of his death, for Samuel mourned for Saul, and Jehovah repented that He had caused Saul to reign over Israel.     et non vidit Samuhel ultra Saul usque ad diem mortis suae verumtamen lugebat Samuhel Saul quoniam Dominum paenitebat quod constituisset regem Saul super Israhel
