| 3. | and the lamp of God hadn't yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down [to sleep], in the temple of Yahweh, where the ark of God was; | And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; |

| 5. | He ran to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He said, "I didn't call; lie down again." He went and lay down. | And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. |
וירץ אל־עלי ויאמר הנני כי־קראת לי ויאמר לא־קראתי שוב שכב וילך וישכב׃ |
VYUrTSh 'aL-'yLY VY'aMUr HNNY KY-QUr'aTh LY VY'aMUr L'a-QUr'aThY ShVB ShKB VYLK VYShKB. | And he runneth unto Eli, and saith, `Here am I, for thou hast called for me;` and he saith, `I called not; turn back, lie down;` and he goeth and lieth down. | et cucurrit ad Heli et dixit ecce ego vocasti enim me qui dixit non vocavi revertere dormi et abiit et dormivit | |||||
| 6. | Yahweh called yet again, "Samuel!" Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." | 8. | Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." Eli perceived that Yahweh had called the child. | And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. |

| 12. | In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end. | In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. |

| 13. | For I have told him that I will judge his house forever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didn't restrain them. | For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. |
והגדתי לו כי־שפט אני את־ביתו עד־עולם בעון אשר־ידע כי־מקללים להם בניו ולא כהה בם׃ |
VHGDThY LV KY-ShPhT 'aNY 'aTh-BYThV 'yD-'yVLM B'yVN 'aShUr-YD'y KY-MQLLYM LHM BNYV VL'a KHH BM. | and I have declared to him that I am judging his house -- to the age, for the iniquity which he hath known, for his sons are making themselves vile, and he hath not restrained them, | praedixi enim ei quod iudicaturus essem domum eius in aeternum propter iniquitatem eo quod noverat indigne agere filios suos et non corripuit eos | |||||
| 14. | Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be removed with sacrifice nor offering forever." | And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever. |
ולכן נשבעתי לבית עלי אם־יתכפר עון בית־עלי בזבח ובמנחה עד־ עולם׃ |
VLKN NShB'yThY LBYTh 'yLY 'aM-YThKPhUr 'yVN BYTh-'yLY BZBCh VBMNChH 'yD- 'yVLM. | and therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli: the iniquity of the house of Eli is not atoned for, by sacrifice, and by offering -- unto the age.` | idcirco iuravi domui Heli quod non expietur iniquitas domus eius victimis et muneribus usque in aeternum | |||||

וישכב שמואל עד־הבקר ויפתח את־דלתות בית־יהוה ושמואל ירא מהגיד את־המראה אל־עלי׃ |

| 17. | He said, "What is the thing that [Yahweh] has spoken to you? Please don't hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you." | And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee. |
ויאמר מה הדבר אשר דבר אליך אל־נא תכחד ממני כה יעשה־לך אלהים וכה יוסיף אם־תכחד ממני דבר מכל־הדבר אשר־דבר אליך׃ |
VY'aMUr MH HDBUr 'aShUr DBUr 'aLYK 'aL-N'a ThKChD MMNY KH Y'yShH-LK 'aLHYM VKH YVSYPh 'aM-ThKChD MMNY DBUr MKL-HDBUr 'aShUr-DBUr 'aLYK. | And he saith, `What is the word which He hath spoken unto thee? I pray thee, hide it not from me; so doth God do to thee, and so doth He add, if thou hidest from me a word of all the words that He hath spoken unto thee.` | et interrogavit eum quis est sermo quem locutus est ad te oro te ne celaveris me haec faciat tibi Deus et haec addat si absconderis a me sermonem ex omnibus verbis quae dicta sunt tibi | |||||
| 18. | Samuel told him every bit, and hid nothing from him. He said, "It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him." | And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good. |
