| 1. * | Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,- | NuN, the pen, and what they (the people) write. | سورة القلم بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ ن والقلم ومايسطرون | swr+ alqlm bsm allh alrHmn alrHym ? n walqlm wmaysTrwn | |||
| 2. * | Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed. | You have attained a great blessing from your Lord; you are not crazy. | ماانت بنعمة ربك بمجنون | maant bn`m+ rbk bmjnwn | |||
| 3. * | Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing: | You have attained a recompense that is well deserved. | وان لك لاجرا غير ممنون | wan lk lajra Gyr mmnwn | |||
| 4. * | And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character. | You are blessed with a great moral character. | وانك لعلى خلق عظيم | wank l`li Klq `Zym | |||
| 5. * | Soon wilt thou see, and they will see, | You will see, and they will see. | فستبصر ويبصرون | fstbSr wybSrwn | |||
| 6. * | Which of you is afflicted with madness. | Which of you are condemned | بايكم المفتون | baykm almftwn | |||
| 7. * | Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance. | Your Lord is fully aware of those who strayed off His path, and He is fully aware of those who are guided. | ان ربك هو اعلم بمن ضل عن سبيله وهو اعلم بالمهتدين | an rbk hw a`lm bmn Dl `n sbylh whw a`lm balmhtdyn | |||
| 8. * | So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth). | Do not obey the rejectors. | فلاتطع المكذبين | flatT` almkXbyn | |||
| 9. * | Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant. | They wish that you compromise, so they too can compromise. | ودوا لو تدهن فيدهنون | wdwa lw tdhn fydhnwn | |||
| 10. * | Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths, | Do not obey every lowly swearer. | ولاتطع كل حلاف مهين | wlatT` kl Hlaf mhyn | |||
| 11. * | A slanderer, going about with calumnies, | A slanderer, a backbiter. | هماز مشاء بنميم | hmaz m$a' bnmym | |||
| 12. * | (Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin, | Forbidder of charity, a transgressor, a sinner. | مناع للخير معتد اثيم | mna` llKyr m`td axym | |||
| 13. * | Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,- | Unappreciative, and greedy. | عتل بعد ذلك زنيم | `tl b`d Xlk znym | |||
| 14. * | Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons. | Even though he possessed enough money and children. | ان كان ذا مال وبنين | an kan Xa mal wbnyn | |||
| 15. * | When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries! | When our revelations are recited to him, he says, "Tales from the past!" | اذا تتلى عليه اياتنا قال اساطير الاولين | aXa ttli `lyh ayatna qal asaTyr alawlyn | |||
| 16. * | Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout! | We will mark his face. | سنسمه على الخرطوم | snsmh `li alKrTwm | |||
| 17. * | Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning. | We have tested them like we tested the owners of the garden who swore that they will harvest it in the morning. | انا بلوناهم كما بلونا اصحاب الجنة اذ اقسموا ليصرمنها مصبحين | ana blwnahm kma blwna aSHab aljn+ aX aqsmwa lySrmnha mSbHyn | |||
| 18. * | But made no reservation, ("If it be Allah.s Will"). | They were so absolutely sure. | ولايستثنون | wlaystxnwn | |||
| 19. * | Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep. | A passing (storm) from your Lord passed by it while they were asleep. | فطاف عليها طائف من ربك وهم نائمون | fTaf `lyha TaYf mn rbk whm naYmwn | |||
| 20. * | So the (garden) became, by the morning, like a dark and desolate spot, (whose fruit had been gathered). | By morning, it was barren. | فاصبحت كالصريم | faSbHt kalSrym | |||
| 21. * | As the morning broke, they called out, one to another,- | They called on each other in the morning. | فتنادوا مصبحين | ftnadwa mSbHyn | |||
| 22. * | "Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits." | "Let us harvest the crop." | ان اغدوا على حرثكم ان كنتم صارمين | an aGdwa `li Hrxkm an kntm Sarmyn | |||
| 23. * | So they departed, conversing in secret low tones, (saying)- | On their way, they confided to each other. | فانطلقوا وهم يتخافتون | fanTlqwa whm ytKaftwn | |||
| 24. * | "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day." | That from then on, none of them would be poor. | ان لايدخلنها اليوم عليكم مسكين | an laydKlnha alywm `lykm mskyn | |||
| 25. * | And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve. | They were so absolutely sure of their harvest. | وغدوا على حرد قادرين | wGdwa `li Hrd qadryn | |||
| 26. * | But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way: | But when they saw it, they said, "We were so wrong! | فلما راوها قالوا انا لضالون | flma rawha qalwa ana lDalwn | |||
| 27. * | "Indeed we are shut out (of the fruits of our labour)!" | "Now, we have nothing!" | بل نحن محرومون | bl nHn mHrwmwn | |||
| 28. * | Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify ((Allah))?'" | The righteous among them said, "If only you had glorified (God)!" | قال اوسطهم الم اقل لكم لولا تسبحون | qal awsThm alm aql lkm lwla tsbHwn | |||
| 29. * | They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!" | They said, "Glory be to our Lord. We have transgressed." | قالوا سبحان ربنا انا كنا ظالمين | qalwa sbHan rbna ana kna Zalmyn | |||
| 30. * | Then they turned, one against another, in reproach. | They started to blame each other. | فاقبل بعضهم على بعض يتلاومون | faqbl b`Dhm `li b`D ytlawmwn | |||
| 31. * | They said: "Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed! | They said, "Woe to us. We sinned. | قالوا ياويلنا انا كنا طاغين | qalwa yawylna ana kna TaGyn | |||
| 32. * | "It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!" | "May our Lord grant us a better one. We repent to our Lord." | عسى ربنا ان يبدلنا خيرا منها انا الى ربنا راغبون | `si rbna an ybdlna Kyra mnha ana ali rbna raGbwn | |||
| 33. * | Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew! | Such was the requital. But the retribution of the Hereafter is far worse, if they only knew. | كذلك العذاب ولعذاب الاخرة اكبر لو كانوا يعلمون | kXlk al`Xab wl`Xab alaKr+ akbr lw kanwa y`lmwn | |||
| 34. * | Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord. | The righteous have deserved, at their Lord, gardens of bliss. | ان للمتقين عند ربهم جنات النعيم | an llmtqyn `nd rbhm jnat aln`ym | |||
| 35. * | Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin? | Shall we treat the Submitters like the criminals? | افنجعل المسلمين كالمجرمين | afnj`l almslmyn kalmjrmyn | |||
| 36. * | What is the matter with you? How judge ye? | What is wrong with your logic? | مالكم كيف تحكمون | malkm kyf tHkmwn | |||
| 37. * | Or have ye a book through which ye learn- | Do you have another book to uphold? | ام لكم كتاب فيه تدرسون | am lkm ktab fyh tdrswn | |||
| 38. * | That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose? | In it, do you find anything you want? | ان لكم فيه لما تخيرون | an lkm fyh lma tKyrwn | |||
| 39. * | Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand? | Or, have you received solemn assurances from us that grant you whatever you wish on the Day of Resurrection? | ام لكم ايمان علينا بالغة الى يوم القيامة ان لكم لما تحكمون | am lkm ayman `lyna balG+ ali ywm alqyam+ an lkm lma tHkmwn | |||
| 40. * | Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that! | Ask them, "Who guarantees this for you?" | سلهم ايهم بذلك زعيم | slhm ayhm bXlk z`ym | |||
| 41. * | Or have they some "Partners" (in Allah.ead)? Then let them produce their "partners", if they are truthful! | Do they have idols? Let their idols help them, if they are truthful. | ام لهم شركاء فلياتوا بشركائهم ان كانوا صادقين | am lhm $rka' flyatwa b$rkaYhm an kanwa Sadqyn | |||
| 42. * | The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,- | The day will come when they will be exposed, and they will be required to fall prostrate, but they will be unable to. | يوم يكشف عن ساق ويدعون الى السجود فلا يستطيعون | ywm yk$f `n saq wyd`wn ali alsjwd fla ystTy`wn | |||
| 43. * | Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused). | With their eyes subdued, humiliation will cover them. They were invited to fall prostrate when they were whole and able. | خاشعة ابصارهم ترهقهم ذلة وقد كانوا يدعون الى السجود وهم سالمون | Ka$`+ abSarhm trhqhm Xl+ wqd kanwa yd`wn ali alsjwd whm salmwn | |||
| 44. * | Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not. | Therefore, let Me deal with those who reject this Hadith; we will lead them on whence they never perceive. | فذرني ومن يكذب بهذا الحديث سنستدرجهم من حيث لايعلمون | fXrny wmn ykXb bhXa alHdyx snstdrjhm mn Hyx lay`lmwn | |||
| 45. * | A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan. | I will give them enough rope; My scheming is formidable. | واملي لهم ان كيدي متين | wamly lhm an kydy mtyn | |||
| 46. * | Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?- | Are you asking them for money, so they are burdened by the fine? | ام تسألهم اجرا فهم من مغرم مثقلون | am tsAlhm ajra fhm mn mGrm mxqlwn | |||
| 47. * | Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down? | Do they know the future? Do they have it recorded? | ام عندهم الغيب فهم يكتبون | am `ndhm alGyb fhm yktbwn | |||
| 48. * | So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,- when he cried out in agony. | You shall steadfastly persevere in carrying out the commands of your Lord. Do not be like (Jonah) who called from inside the fish. | فاصبر لحكم ربك ولاتكن كصاحب الحوت اذ نادى وهو مكظوم | faSbr lHkm rbk wlatkn kSaHb alHwt aX nadi whw mkZwm | |||
| 49. * | Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace. | If it were not for his Lord's grace, he would have been ejected into the desert as a sinner. | لولا ان تداركه نعمة من ربه لنبذ بالعراء وهو مذموم | lwla an tdarkh n`m+ mn rbh lnbX bal`ra' whw mXmwm | |||
| 50. * | Thus did his Lord choose him and make him of the Company of the Righteous. | But his Lord blessed him, and made him righteous. | فاجتباه ربه فجعله من الصالحين | fajtbah rbh fj`lh mn alSalHyn | |||
| 51. * | And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed!" | Those who disbelieved show their ridicule in their eyes when they hear the message and say, "He is crazy!" | وان يكاد الذين كفروا ليزلقونك بابصارهم لما سمعوا الذكر ويقولون انه لمجنون | wan ykad alXyn kfrwa lyzlqwnk babSarhm lma sm`wa alXkr wyqwlwn anh lmjnwn | |||
| 52. * | But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds. | It is in fact a message to the world. | وماهو الا ذكر للعالمين | wmahw ala Xkr ll`almyn | |||
